Block Heater cord on the 04

As many of you may have noticed the 04 dodge has the block heater cord as an option. The dealers around here are asking between 40 and 65 dollars for on and they will have to order it. I got hacked of and emailed Cummins and they were kind enough to send me the Cummins part number for the cord. The following is what they sent me back.

Thanks for your Email message.

It appears that the 2004 Dodge is equipped with a block heater standard
but the cord (part# 3963564) is an option. The Dodge part# for this
cord is 05086737AB.
Get a price from local Cummins Distributor:

my 05 didn't come with a cord (sucks doesn't it). i ordered it from the dealership for $19.00 + tax. i stopped by the local cummins shop (which is less than 1 mile from my house) and they looked at me like i was crazy. they had no idea about the block heater cord for my dodge. they were trying to sell me the whole block heater

anyway $19.00 wasn't too bad. i'm sure i could have bought it cheaper somewhere else but i needed it pretty quick.

Yep, it was a $10 option when I bought the truck, but I spaced it out. Well I paid for it later around $50...... Cord only. Said a few choice words that day..

I go out every morning and start my truck a 5:30 am and let it run to 15 minutes before I leave for work. (My neighbors love me!) I figure if I plug her in it will shorten the time it takes to get warm air in cab. I my be off on this one, but it doesn’t keep me from

A. Wanting it.
B. Trying it.

Hey TFarmer,

I got my heater cord at Cummins Southern Plains in Mesquite, out the door for $10.54. Super nice people there. I didn't email or order, they just had it in stock when I went by there.

It probably doesn't get cold enough here to HAVE to have it, but it sure is nice to go ahead and plug it in when it gets to freezing or below, just to help the engine a little.

Mine didn't come from the factory with one, but I bought one from the local Cummins dealer for $13.

I haven't had any trouble starting the truck without it, but it takes about 10 minutes off the time it takes to get heat out of the vents.

I had the same problem as you T7. I felt like I knew more about what they were selling than the kid behind the counter. Anyone have the Cummins part # for the cord so I can help them find it in the dab blane computer?? Thanx in advance.

I called over to CUMMINS SOUTHERN PLAINS and they were out of them, but ordered it no problem they said it would be in on Thursday. The parts guys was very nice and chuckled because there have been a lot of guys coming in looking for them instead of going to dodge.

One other question on this subject. I know where to plug the cord in on the block, but how and where is the best way to route it to the front. How do you secure it….zip ties? I had thought it might be nice to route it down by one of the front tow hook holes in the front bumper….go idea or bad?

If it'll reach... sounds good by the tow hooks. On mine (stock) it comes out at the bottom left of the grille.
