better fuel milage

I have an 04.5 and want to increase mpg. Truck is completly stock. Everything I look at says it gives me better mpg but dose it?Banks intake ,K&n air intake, all the power chips- hate to buy just to try.

Inflate tires (particularly front tires) to 80 psi, put a chip/downloader/box on that does TIMING. The rokktech crank sensor is also reputed to give about 2 mpg on average. You might not be able to use the full 2 degrees of advance it gives you in conjunction with a timing box, but the sensor is easily adjustable from stock timing to 2 degrees advanced. In order of effectiveness and cost, I'd run the front tires to 80 if they aren't already, and then I'd do the crank sensor.

Manual or auto....try consistent shifting at ~2000rpm.

I added ~1mpg doing that!

Lose that god awful restrictive muffler. You have no idea how much that stupid thing chokes the life out of our motors. Our little 6 bangers need to breath.

Agree, when I put on my Donaldson muffler I saw a solid 1.5 mpg gain, possibly higher if I could just keep my foot off the go-pedal.

Is there a muffler out there that can allow better mileage but still be comparable to the OEM noise-wise?

I'm trying the Rokktech crank trigger and the Rokktech silent might muffler and hopefully those two together will add some feel and mpg. I'll keep you posted

How do you know how many deg's of timing you will need to dial in on the rokktech adjustable timing sensor? or does it do it automatically? and is the rokktech silent might muffler a direct bolt on or weld on?

Thanks Rob

At first I was getting 585kms to a 115l fill. Now I can get 830kms to the same tank.

All I did was break my gas burner habits and started driving it like a diesel.

Shift at or before 2000rpm and cruise between 1800 and 1900 rpm max! These newer trucks with much lower gears makes it difficult but I proved to myself that it was possible to hit 20mpg. I still average 12.5 because I don't really want to slow down but at least i understand that it's possible.

I've always wanted a truck with 373's and now I'd give anything to have 255's.
