Best place to break down......
Howzit,
Kind of a funny story...took my truck into the *********** this morning for what I think is an injector noise. The symptoms were the knocking sound as many on here have expeienced, coupled with a rough engine at between 1200 and 1400 rpms...out of gear and only at operating temp. Aloso, I had changed the filters twice, fueled up with fresh fuel to no avail. I arrive at the dealership this morning, and of course, the thing is not making the sound near as loud as it had been. The lady checking me in said she didnt hear it, and I said it is only audible from the inside. The mechanic was in the drivers seat with the engine running, and I asked him to rev it up to around 1500 rpms and back it off. he did, and the engine was not making near as much noise. He said it sounded normal to him. I asked him to rev it one more time and all of the sudden, it completely quits! He said, "That was wierd" and starts it again, accelarates and it immediately dies again. Would not start after that. Right there in the check-in line! I have never had the truck quit on me ever. How is that for a break down place?
I am awaiting the diagnosis....I supect the LP failed as I have the one on the fuel filter. We will see. I am still under the 5 year Cummins warranty, as I just had the water pump replaced last month. They tried to get me on the $100 fee but I took the warranty manual in and showed them the WP was still under warranty. They had no clue! Anyway, I got reimbursed. We'll see what happens today.
Lets see, I have 33500 miles on the truck and so far the AC blend door actuator went out, Water pump, I checked my ball joints this weekend, and they are shot (hence the front passenger tire wear)...now todays' debacle.
So, new tires are in store (35 BFGs KOs) ball joints, possible fuel pump if they dont put the in tank upgrade in, Kore HP and 2 micron FF. Looks like I have some work and cash ahead of me....

Thanks for the sentiments. It turns out it was the injector pump....covered under warranty. No deductible, but they do want to charge me $90 to install a fuel filter. Not sure if i will put up a hassle for that....especially in light of how much an injector pump would cost. I will still have them check the injectors after pump is installed. Then the first thing is a 2 micron filter between the LP and injection pump. Will probably do a LP very soon after.
