You can also use a LF-3894. It's the same filter only without the fluted bottom. I buy mine from www.schieddiesel.com for $9.50 apiece. Hope this helps.

I have used both (statopore with and without fluted bottom). On the 3rd gen trucks you can't (I can't) reach down and do the filter from the topside, meaning I need to put together about 2' worth of extensions and a filter socket to get to it.

I would get the fluted filter if both are available.

Fleetguard Stratopore every time.......

That new AFE oil filter looks decent- I usually use Fleetguard Stratapores or Donaldson Endurance.

Do you think it really matters, nobody runs the same oilfilter.... If you look around you will find people that run fram, wix, fleetguard, amsoil, donaldson, or any other type of filter that they can find. Just pick a filter that is easy for you to get. And you will get alot of people that say...well your not protecting your engine. Do a search, how many oil related failures do you see. This is the same argument as dino vs synthetic oil. They both work without any issues. Yeah, maybe and I stress maybe if you ran a truck to 1.5 million miles you could tell a difference, but I doubt it. So find what is close to you and just use it. I'm sure I'm gonna get blasted for this post but...Oh well.

Tell the guys that plugged up the oil passages in their motors with cheaply made filters like fram. Sometimes they come apart inside and filter media is carried all through the engine. and sometimes these cheap filters just split and blow oil all over.

Well if you don't use a good filter you run a very good chance of hurting your engine when the oil filter fails do to the high oil pressure that a diesel engine has. When it comes to oil filters I don't want to take a chance on a cheap oil filter on my $20,000 engine so I use Fleetguard Stratapore oil filters. Also if the Fleetguard filter fails Cummins will pay for a new engine.

Sure you can, I wouldn't do it any other way. Just take the intake breather tube loose from front of turbo. Takes about 30 seconds and gives alot more room to work. You couldn't pay me to have to take one off from the bottom, clumsy as I am I'd have oil spilled everywhere.
