Broke her in with Delo, then switched to Royal Purple 15W40 at 20,000 miles and use the Stratapore filter too.

I use Mopar filters (only because I bought a case cheap on ebay) and valvoline premium blue. But I really don’t think it maters as long as I stay within Cummins specifications. I just don’t see the need to spend a lot of money on synthetic oil and expensive filters. I would still expect my engine to out-last my truck.

I use Fleetguard filters and currently am using 50% Delvac 15W40 and 50% Mobil 1 Truuck & SUV 5W40 (basically Delvac 1). I noticed that Exxon XD3 Elite, a synthetic blend, was a bit quieter than Delvac 15W40, and when it became unavailable I started using my own blend. It'll also provide a bit better cold start performance. I like a bit more wear performance, which I assume that Delvac 1 will provide, as the truck see lots of cold starts and also idling in traffic.

Rotella-T & Fleetguard.....................

Fleetguard # LF16035's and 15W40 Rotella-T until 21k every 5k miles; now I run 5W40 Rotella-T every 8k miles along with a fuel filter change every oil change, too.

Amsoil series 3000 5w-30, Donaldson endurance, and a nano synthetic fiber bypass oil filter. Best diesel milage I have seen.

I saw a fuel mileage increase and obvious operating temp. decrease when I switched from conventional 15w-40 Rotella to Amsoil 15w-40 full synthetic in my '92 Dodge diesel. I continue to use the Amsoil in my 2004.5 but couldn't make another comparison because of how long it takes for the engines to fully break in. I "only" have 28,000 miles on it. I also used Amsoil filters and get the Donaldson through them now. ELF7349

But Amsoil as a new filter that they say is even better: EaO80 for the Cummins.

EaO oil filter info.

Amsoil info and sources.

Mobil 1 filter and any name brand 15w-40

I use mobil one filters mainly from convenience. There is many good ones out there as with oil. Can't go wrong with fleetguard, wix, napa, baldwin, or mobil 1. As for oil, I have used delvac, rotella, valvoline, and delo. My brother has a 89 ctd with 500k on it. It has been abused and worked very hard here in Texas on a ranch. All it has ever seen is a steady diet of exxon 15w40 and fleetguard filters. I would run the same thing but he buys his oil by bulk and I haven't exxon in the one gallon jugs. As for fleetguards, they are just a pain for me to get unless I order them online. If I was in a cold climate I would use a 5w40 synthetic though. Atleast in the cold part of the yr.
