belt tensioner and idler pulley
Are these parts part of the 7/70 power train wrnty? I have 50,000 miles on my 04.5 and 2 ribs off my belt came off. I bought a new belt but am wondering what causes this? all the pulleys spin free, but something must be pushing the belt over the edge to cut the 2 ribs off. should I just put the new belt on and hope for the best? Anyone else had this happen? Thanks.

With age comes the cage
The problem is caused by the alternators inertia wanting to keep the thing spinning after shut down. there is a TSB on it they replace your alternator pulley with an over-runnning alternator pulley, I had this done to mine as it shredded a belt at 23K miles. I no longer have the belt chirp at shutdown. do a search on it as I posted the TSB & pulley number on this site. it affects 03 to 05.5's
Here is what I posted:
There is a belt shred issue on 03 to 05(6-29-05 mfg date) 5.9's, it requires an over-runing alternator pulley to fix.. just had mine done under warranty. belt shredded with only 23K on it. No TSB # it was listed as a service repair tip. OAP part # is 05183490AA
