Believe Dealership or not??? Bad trans?

Ok so i brought my truck into the dealer to get my injectors checked out (they are gonna replace all 6 of them under warrenty), but i also told them to check out a slow tranny fluid leak. I called today and they told me that all the injectors are bad, that my tranny fluid had metal fragments in it (but they said they didnt drain it? that they took a sample??? dont know how?) It shifted and drove perfect when i brought it in. and that my U joints are bad along with my tie rods? Its only got 80k miles and drove straight as an arrow... and i never had any reason to believe my u joints were bad. None of that is under warrenty so i dont know what to do. not sure if i should believe them. what do you guys think? are they just looking for work ??? thanks

I would tell them to turn the sample over to me because I use my own testing lab, and then ask to see the bad parts on the lift with their tech demonstrating the problem. After that, I'd have a little discussion with the service manager about their procedures for diagnosing leaks, injector replacement and performing work that was not requested.

But that's just what I would do, being the customer from H-ll that I am.

They sound like gold diggers. I'd get it to another dealership and have them look at it. DON"T SAY ANYTHING about what the other place told you. Let dealership two (2) draw their own conclusion. Just delay dealership one (1) with excuses about why you can't get it in to them right now to buy yourself time.

There is no way that all of that is bad suddenly. Dealerships are hurting currently because of the market and are trying to get everything they can from anyone they can. I would tell them to take care of the warranty work and the rest of it I would get a second opinion. My truck has not seen a dealer for any type of service in almost two years and will not see another one if I have anything to say about it.

What do yall think about the transmission? it was driving and shifting perfect when i brought it in...if there were metal fragments wouldnt it be having problems by now? should i take it home and drain the fluid through a t shirt to check for metal fragments or is there something better to try. thanks

Metal is normalin these trans. Most of it comes from break in during the first few thousand miles. After that it will run clean. change fluid and filter and check it again in 10,000 miles.

Take it home, drop the pan, inspect the magnet, replace filter and refill. Let them do the sticks under warranty and that is it. Very questionable. I know if I thought your truck had all those possible issues as a tech I wouldn't tell you about it, cause you would think I was trying to take you to the cleaners. I didn't do business that way when I was a tech. That is why I had repeat customers that would ask for me, ONLY....

I would ask them to show you these metal shavings, a little fine metal and some reflective material is normal. If that's all it is I wouldn't sweat it. If you haven't changed your fluid and filter since you've had the truck, now would be a good time to do it and you can inspect the magnet as well.

U-joints and tie rods:
Ask them to demonstrate this wear to you as well. If the tie rods have just enough play to be detectable but are not causing abnormal tire wear (and you said it drives straight as an arrow) you can put off the repair if you need to until they get noticable slop. If there is noticeable slop in the joints then replace them. If there is any noticable play in the u-joints it is advised to replace them.

easy to take a sample without draining. most dealers have a suction gun with a long hose to run down the dipstick. mine shifted great and had it in and they found metal. removed the tranny, tore it down and overdrive was SMOKED. still shifted and ran great though.

Personally it sounds to me like they want you to pay for the injector change via all the other work?
I have a biased opinion of dealers though as I have been shafted (or tried too be) by every one I ever stepped foot on.
Tell them to just change the sticks and deal with the rest when it needs doing JMO

instilling fear and saftey is thier #1 means of selling u parts and service on parts that still have 80-90% of their usefull life left...they tried selling me a new steering box 5 years ago by showing me the play it had in it, i laughed to myself and wanted to tell them shut.t.f.u., still have it in it today.
