BD Auxiliary Fuel Pump

I was thinking maybe a few of you out there that have BD Aux. Pumps may be interested, (I won't embarrasses anyone by saying your name)

This weekend I installed a spring loaded toggle switch, to bypass the oil sender that powers up the BD pump. Took a hot wire off plus side of battery (after a fuse), ran it to switch and from switch to plus side of auxiliary pump. Then to run a test, I unplugged the stock lift pump on fuel filter. Then I tried to start truck, hold toggle switch on while waiting for wait-to-start light goes out and it started OK. Now oil pressure turns on aux. pump so let off toggle switch and go for a ride and OK, it runs without stock lift pump, only 2 lb fuel pressure but it will get me home if stock pump dies.

On a side note, I was thinking that the best type of switch to use is a spring loaded toggle switch, as I did, so it wouldn't stay on unless someone is holding it on.

Had a BD pump on my 04 worker good but to noisey so I never put it on my 06. Now the only thing you have to worry about is the BD pump going out. Then it is my understanding you have a 50/50 shot of your truck running.

Do you have the older style silver Carter pump or the black pump? Only asking because everyone keeps saying that the pump is very loud, I can't hear mine, inside the cab, when the engine is running, only when engine is off.

nice job Al,I'm not the least bit embarresed of my bd pump It has been supplying good fuel press. for me now for three years,so I definately got my moneys worth out of it.I had also done a test some time ago to see if the truck would run without the stock pump and as you said it does,I did the test umpteen times and my truck started and ran every time,

Thanks Rich, I know it's not one of the big money pumps, but it gives me 22-24lb of fuel pressure, so I can't complain either.

With the BD aux pump do you have to disconnect the stock pump or can you use both in unison to give you higher pressure? Also, do you have to drop the fuel tank to install?

My BD pump lasted a whopping 5 months before dying a horrible noisy death...
My 2 Cummins Campaign pumps have been going strong for 30K now...

Hope you guys have better luck with the BD pump than I did

I have the black carter pump. I do not use the pump in tandem, got rid of the factory one(actually ran it over when I was done with the job)
I have had good luck with mine.
You dont have to drop the tank on an 04.5 unless the retrofit has been done. Farmer, you will either be forced to use both in tandem, or get a old style pickup tube and drop the tank to get rid of your intank stocker.

Dodgezilla04 - how do you not use the original fp? I was under the impression that the BD kit feed the lift pump mounted to the filter housing on 04.5 trucks.

i bought the replacement kit. it comes with the pump, brackets, fittings, short lengths of hose, a pigtail to go from the pump to the factory connector at the factory L/P, and a machined aluminum piece with o ring to go in-place of the l/p. they make 2 different flavors of kits, booster and replacement.

I appreciate your reply - and I wonder why their web catalog and install manual only show their auxillary pump as an option for the 04.5 model. I even called and asked if it was possible to bypass the oem pump and was told no.
Dodgezilla04, if you could look back and see which kit you used I would like to know the #.
This, to me, seems to give good results, easiest install and best cost.
thanks...

thanks, I did go back and search the install manuals and looked at the kit for an 04 - it shows thru 04.5 and the plate that replaces the oem pump. But I do appreciate your post.
One last question...
Does this setup have a relief bypass like the Glacier system; or is it ok for the cp3 to have constant pressure on it.
