batteries/optimas

can someone explain what the difference between the blue top and the yellow top optima batteries are?i used to run yellow tops in my last truck, and i thought they were pretty good, i ran red tops before too, i see the blue tops are deep cycle like the yellows and have decent cranking amps, what i like about them is the fact they have the extra posts for adding stuff, and they seem to be cheaper to buy. why are they just rated for marine use or RV use???would they not work well in a truck for cranking and a bit of stereo??

I asked Optima the same question a while back.

Other the battery post configuration their official answer was:

"They are physically the same batteries, but have different warranty"

Red are starting batteries. Yellow and Blue are deep cycle.

Talking Optima

Used to make good ones 10 years ago, I loved them! Not anymore! When they sold the company went downhill.

I used to run Optimas but switched to Deka Intimidators by East Penn Manufacturing. Made in USA too! I use them in all our boats and marine applications as well as the trucks.

Consumer Reports does a battery test every couple of years. optima never comes out on top - except in price. The top three are always Diehard, Interstate, and Autozone Gold.

The optima has some special features that can sometimes be important. I have one in my Cobra replica. Only because it's mounted right over the passenger foot box. I think a nearly indestructable case is important there. But, the first one didn't last nearly as long as it should.

If I replace the batteries in the Ram, it will probably be Autozone.

die hard s are exide batteries, from what i know, and interstate batteries and optima are one in the same now , from what i am told by a guy who use to work for interstate batteries.
i have had good luck with my optima batteries, but with all case some are junk and some are good. who makes the oddessy batteries, and where to buy them???they seem good. i went to the link above, i get a kick out of there pics, if you look at the pic for the optima, they claim wasted space, but the case on the optima is not a rectangle, its the same shape as the cores.anyway, i heard good things about them too.i have a problem with a battery that has no weight. i feel it has to be junk. costco has kirkland batteries, and they weight about as much as a garden tractor battery.
