Autozone Fuel Filters

Don't buy them!

I installed/reinstalled several times trying to understand why it wouldn't seal. After about an hour, I got tired of sniffing Diesel fumes and went to NAPA. Setting the filters side by side, I still don't know where the problem lies. I almost replaced the cap thinking that I cracked it during the first install.

I'm sure that this has been hashed out on the board before. I don't view the forum as much as I should, but I thought that someone might find this helpful.

Now to enjoy the rest of my Sunday...

You did not tell what truck you have. It would help if you would fill out your signature.

You NEED the best fuel filter you can get for the OE canister. Some brands are not good fuel/water seperators and water will do damge very quickly. The best is the Baldwin BF7977 @ 5 microns absolute and second is the Fleetguard and MOPAR both 7 microns absolute. Some other brands may say 5 or 7 microns but are nominal not absolute.

I was in California awhile back and I had to get an AutoZone fuel filter for my truck to get me home as it was pretty much my only option available. I didnt really care about its filtration that much as I have a 2 micron CAT 1R-0750 downstream from the stock housing. But I had a different problem, it didnt even fit. It was close but no go. After trying to show them the difference I just gave up and left. So I had to put the new O-ring from the "new" (AutoZone) filter on and luckily found a NAPA not too far off the beaten path. I ended up putting a NAPA Gold in there until I got home. From now on I carry a spare Baldwin PF7977 with me...
