Yeah!
I'm a driver & love all the gears... still can't find 7th!!!
Gotta love that big rig sound with the super BHAF & custom SS exhaust.

It seems as if the 48re has solved almost all the reliability problems that were around in the past. Look around here and see how many 48re's have had to be rebuilt/replaced,I would bet not many more than the six speeds. So if the reliability is as good,it is faster,is rated to tow more, gets better milage and you can go through a stop sign without multiple shifts, what's so bad about it.

If you want an automatic transmission, buy a Crown Vic. If you want to buy a truck then there is only one choice ... but the G56 tranny in the Dodges is just barly a truck transmission.

6 speed with 3:73's will get about 5 mpg less on the highway at 75 mph than on the back roads at 55 mph in 6th. It's all due to the low gearing.
I'm ordering a gear vendors overdrive unit Tuesday. 22% overdrive. It will give me about 20 MPG I like to drive at 75 MPH. the 6 speed is spinning kinda fast; about 2300-2400 RPM at that speed. it will drop to 1800-1870 rpm for the same speed. That's perfect. I bet I will break 20 MPG after the truck is broken in.
At $3.25 a gallon it will pay for it's self in a few years, but more importantly the motor will spin less RPM per mile. That is good. It is also in the right RPM range for power/torque. It will be more fun to drive.
It's easy to install. I plan on taking it from truck to truck when this one goes from the salt.
It will also let you go a lot faster if that is something you are into. Out in the flats of the big states you will get rear ended if you only go 70 MPH.
All I need to do is cut a little less than 14" of my drive shaft and bolt it in. A few wires and I'm good to go.
Tires will be cheeper... It will be a nice sleeper. Not many 18 speeds out there. (6 low range and 12 high range) I should find the right gear for any MPH. No excuse for lacking the correct ratio.
I think it will be good for 100 MPH too
No to only find the correct Bilstein shocks for the 2006 4x4. I think it's BE5-6681 front and BE5-6647 rear. Geno's says the rear is BE5-6682
The stock shocks are garbage!
If you tow a lot of weight keep in mind with the G56 that direct drive is 5th gear. So on hills you should use 5th in OD and spare your 6th gear from potential damage. The Gear Vendors unit is good for 35,000 lbs IIRC. So it;s made to take the weight.
I can't WAIT!
