Anyone Using Biodiesel?
#16
On the Cummins website they say 5% biodiesel is OK (although they seem to have recently changed their website so I don't know if the FAQ is still there). Also, in one of my posts above there are links to Chrysler shipping the new Jeep Liberty common rail diesel with 5% biodiesel straight from the factory, and statements about running them and the Cummins powered Ram on 20% without problems.

Eastment - yes I know a few people that brew their own bio. One guy has run the last 45k miles exclusively on it (b100) with no problems in his TDI.
As far as fuel tests go, you can go to www.avlube.com and get a relatively basic fuel test kit for around $50.

I have checked this stuff out and can not buy veg oil for 60 cents a gallon. Little VW engines sip fuel compared to the cummins. The volume required takes time/effort/planning blah...blah. Then you need lye and methanol, ph tester, tanks, mixer, pumps, valves, washer setup etc. Yes it can be done on a home scale but like wine or beer it takes time to settle out the sediment and you don't won't a bad ph/glycerine(soapy) batch of home brew messing up those expensive cp3/fuel injectors. With the price of the great diesel rip off the market will correct itself hopefully in our favor.

N johnson, the way people are making it for less than 60 cents per gallon is that of using recycled oils. There is no need to use virgin oils once you get the titration correct. Most folks collect WVO for free from local restaurants, potato chip factories, wherever. The costs are your processor, electricity, methanol/lye, and your time.
Biodiesel made from WVO typically has a higher cetane number, but a slightly higher cloud point as well. Powerservice makes an actual biodiesel antigel additive, designed for folks running b20.

i just bought the Biodiesel "Discovery" Kit here---->http://www.biodieselgear.com/equipment/demokits.htm
I`m gonna play around a bit and see what the hub bub is about. I burn a tank per weak, so it may pay off to buy the bigger setup. We shall see.
I`ll post my results after a batch or 2. I wish i had a small diesel engine to try it out in
