anyone seen this b4
Awhile back I was having white smoke and running VERY rough all of a sudden and what it turned out to be was the #3 intake bridge had come off due to the plastic retainer breaking off and loosing the swivel from the rocker arm. So I had the head gone through ordered 2 new rocker arms because another one was broken but had not fallen off yet so it was functioning still. I also sent my injectors to Industrial Injection to be looked at and found out from them that they were internally worn beyond repair so i ordered a new set of 60+hp injectors. Well yesterday I finally had everything back and ready to reassemble so I was doing all that fun stuff yesterday and I get down to the rocker arms and I grab the set from #6 cylinder and head to the parts washer. When I pulled the pivot from the rocker arm I noticed some mild gaulding on BOTH the pivot and rocker arm,on BOTH intake and exhaust arms. So i wash it up and dry it and grab the next SAME thing. Well all rockers were this way with a few of them being a little worse than other but #3 intake was so gaulded that it wouldn't barely move at all so I am guessing that this is what caused it to fail now I am starting to wonder if the rest are not far behind. I did not assembly any of the others yet as I am thinking of replacing all the arms and pivots now because I think I would end up seizing another one down the line. Has anyone else noticed this? The head seemed to be getting oil up to it as it was full of oil when I pulled it into the shop to begin the teardown. Also do any of you have any ideas could it have been from previous owners starting off without letting the oil get flowing first? or is it not that uncommon? Any ideas and experiences would be greatly appreciated I have only had this Cummins for about 2 months my previous was an '01
Thanks

you have something seriously wrong. i will bet money that you are not getting oil to the arms. fram oil filters were coming apart and clogging passages also if you get dirt or any object get into the center of the filter when installing it can cause this

what filter and oil are you using?
and what do you use the truck for?
does it see long use, or just short use?
i'm just asking, cause i have no idea why you would have that problem. when i did my injectors on my 03, it had 420,000kms, and it was nice and clean. rockers were perfect still.

Well I just got the truck the end of June and the dealer had just serviced it and had a NAPA 7620 filter on it. That is what I replaced it with yesterday when I was anticipating getting back to driving it. I use Rotella 5w-40 oil in it BUT I am not sure what was ran in it prior to. It came from Flordia and I am just guessing but I think it probably pulled something because it has the mounts for a 5th wheel hitch in it and with 140000 miles in 3years I am assuming it was over the road. I use it to drive to work (about 5miles) daily and for pulling grain wagons to the elevator in the fall and other than that pretty much general farm use and short trips.
Carl48 is there any general passages that you know of that might have gotten blocked? I am not real familiar of the internals of these Cummins engines so I am not real sure how the oil gets to the head.
Thanks for the help. Farmer B
