my dad has a crew cab dually 6.0 psd and it does fly for a stock motor (yeah, 3500rpms). i'm sure a common rail ctd would beat it with any sort of box, but stock to stock they're probably real close.

Oh my bad, id just heard about all the 2003 6.0's traumas and just assumed, but ya know what that does

I think he'll be in a dodge before to long ...

havent raced a duramax yet....

02 CDT HO 6spd, 4x4, 3:55 gears, edge comp, egt and boost guages, banks exhuast.

Well sometimes the "BS" gets so strong you can smell it through the speakers. Next time you race your brother in law, tell him to start his engine!!!!!!!

May be going to the 1/8 mile strip tonight.... will lay down some passes to get us some "real world" numbers... with paper plates still on the rig.. he he ... but hey I have 2 k miles on it.....
I will try several diff ways to launch as this will be a big issue on elapsed times.... It is kinda hard cause with almost any "power-braking" my truck just roasts the tires.. hopefully the track will be sticky enough to get enough traction.....
anyone else have any suggestions on how to launch? what rpm's etc......

My friend has the exact same truck as I do except its all stock. Even with my lift and taller tires I can pass him like he's standing still. I haven't had a chance to line up against anything else. My other friend has a 2000 F250 pushing 400 horse and 800lbs of torgue dynoed. He wants to race me and I'm really not sure yet. A few more mods and I'm gonna give it a shot. I got no problem taking Quadcab Hemi's either but they don't count there only gassers.

Racing a Duramax

Does is count when you race them uphill pulling a trailer? If so, Yes.

I am by no means trying to start a flame war (actually in the market for a CTD in a few months I think, still undecided), BUT, the 325/600 with the 6 speed I test drove pales in comparison acceleration wise to my duramax when it was stock. Just for reference I now have only a 110 quad tuner on now, and when I raced my roomates 95GT mustang 5 speed from either a 30 rollon or a 70 rollon, I would put about a car or two between us and then he could not catch me before I punched through 100+ mph, above 80 I stop gaining ground on him and he gently starts getting it back. For reference his car stock traps in the low 90s in the quarter mile. *shrugs* Basically unless you have a box and the duramax is stock, the duramax is going to win, which makes no sense, since you guys actually have a HIGHER redline with the CTD. Our redline is only 3200 rpm, so I have to shift the hell out of it for that first 40 mph..haha But as I said, I am SERIOSLY thinking of trading up to a 04 CTD with the 6 speed, I think it is a better powertrain, my only concern is with the mileage, and taking a monetary hit on mine.

I find it hard to beleive the GM would better as CTD in the 1/4 mile race of truth. Mine ran a ligit 15.1 -w- a passenger and about 300 lbs in the back-w-an edge EZ on #4, straight pipe and AFE-w-proguard. Now I have added a VA 3.2 duration and on #2 it is sick and I cannot wait to race a Duramax or phord.
I own a phord PSD family van and really like it but it is a 96 and doesn't count as far as comparing to these modern diesels. This is the truck that got me started on diesels cause when the turbo comes on it is really strong and the mileage is great compared to a gasser (17-18mpg).
I also own a GMC 3500 gasser work "cube" van and will not buy another GM product. it has less than 50K on it and already needed rear axle seals and the interior is falling apart. Price wise it was much less $ then phord but the quality of the GM products are crap IMO. They look great when new but are put together very cheaply again IMO.
Please excuse my Mopar fondness. It may be irrational at times but for me it is Mopar or nocar. The family van is an exception as there are no passenger CTD and the GMC cube van was just a mistake.

Banks offers alot more stuff to attempt to keep the EGT's down,, so alot of money is spent towards air ( $ ), and not towards fuel.

In '03 the 7.3L was offered, but only for the 1st quarter, or until 2003.25, then it was exclusivly 6.0's.

As for the Higher RPM theory,, it's sorta true, but the deal with the Duramax is, it makes more power near redline, compared to the CTD is choked back a bit over 2,900 or so with the stock turbo.

A Chipped Duramax is Lethal! It will Eat your lunch, at the dragstrip, on the road, or towing. It might not live for 200,000 miles, but it will get there faster.

A PowerStroke, well, so far, it will beat a CTD to the Dealership, to the used car dealership, and to the Lemon Law requirements....

That does make sense since mine is pretty flat below 1800 rpm, then it is a flat out screamer before it signs off at about 3200.

That's the computer programming, 'cause if you put a chip on 'em, they pull HARD to, 3,450, and with the right programmer, they will pull to 4,500.

The turbo flows descent, but with ALOT of room for improvement.

2003 was a transition year for the Powerstroke. Both the 7.3 and 6.0 were available. In fact, the 7.3 was discounted by $1500 to clear the inventory.
