Anyone install a 5.9L in a Dakota? Any tips?

I'm thinking about putting a 5.9L Cummins into a Dakota. Has anyone did this? What complications might I run into? I am assuming I will need to change the truck's computer, transmission, and make modifications to make the beast fit and support its weight.

I think it would be a fun project now that my Ram truck is just about complete.

An early 12v would be somewhat easy as long as it fits.
The suspension would need a Solid axle, as the Dakota parts would not handle the weight.

Check the conversion forums on this site and others.

IMO a 5.9 is too big for a Dakota. Either a 3.9 or 3.3 is better.

You could put one in a Yugo if you wanted to bad enough. Questions are how much modification are you willing to do and what are you going to use it for?

you could always buy a full size truck, instead of making one out of a s10

I think a dakota would make a killer drag truck, get the extended cab for longer wheel base.

If you where doing a drag truck then the mods would not matter much.

Jeff Garmon put a 12v in a second gen dakota but if I remember correctly the wall put a stop to his fun with it. You might be able to search to find some info about it.

Yes it has been done. It isnt as difficult as one would think but everything is custom.
