anyone ever rebuild their own 48re?
ok guys i am planning on changing out my converter in the future for a dtt single and a billet input. so while im in there i might as well just rebuild the thing.
has anyone on here ever rebuilt their own trans or does everyone just pony up the money and have someone else rebuild it? i am a firm believer in the diy set up so if you guys have any pointers let me know i am planning on getting
dtt single
rebuild kit from patc
rear servo
billet apply anchor
and a billet input shaft.
im going for around 550 horse or so so i wont be doing the output shaft at this time. also i will not be doing any 4wd launches
any input would be great thanks

I did mine in 2003.
Follow DTT's advise.
There are things that need to be done to protect the trans.Such as factory flaws.
Do you have any prior trans experience?
I did, especially with the 727 and 518.

Going to do mine, I used this kit on my 47 rh in my v10 dually. Worked awsome, think it pretty much takes care of all the main issues.
There site is a bit hard to get used to at first but they have good info, and if you need to call them had nothing but good CS. Still want to talk to a few more ppl and make sure I get everything, but I am pretty sure this is about 90% of the internals that need upgraded.
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm
The clutch pack, has 1 extra clutch per assembly. Held tight as hell on the old V10 even after the mods.
#1HE-48-2
Band kit, bigger band and address's the leaky parts as well.
#4NUB
I have sent a email to Gorend to see about there kits and the upgraded front seal they recomend. I might go with there VB not sure yet.

mark03 that kit is good for everything including the overdrive unit correct?
i have all the stuff in the 4nub except the band itself and the apply lever so i would get those 2 as well as the rear band and billet rear servo. so looking at somewhere around 600 for those parts and 750 for a input and ???????? for a tc for a solid trans

Yes its all 3 clutch packs, The tc is specific to who u like. I ended up with the GOrend triple. Some say the imput and intermediate shaft, but I doubt I will do any billit.
For the OD unit if you dont have a press and a alignment shaft then do what I have had to do. I go to one of the little trans shops around here, give them 20 bucks and they press it and align the clutches with a shaft and pop in the snap ring. You will have to use the chart to figure out what spacer plate you need for the OD unit, my last trans was a diff size.

try calling Garmon diesel , good guy to talk to and he has awsome prices. I'm still on the fence about going single or triple disk. I 'm going to pull the trigger shortly but can't find a core 48re to build less down time and can take my time to get things right.

on the od, if you have never done one before, find someone who has. that is like an 800 ft/lb spring in there(been a while since if done on,left the business for a better career). but to make it short, that spring can kill you if not done right.
