Anyone elses transfer case seal leak?

I notice on every dodge ram i crawl under that the output seal on the transfer case seal leaks. Is it easy to change this? I can get mine fixed for $50 but just wondering if its worth my time crawling under truck on gravel road to change it myself?

Mine does too but it kinda starts and stops every now and then. Its kinda weird that way. I know i had a driveshaft replaced under warranty and they said that the yoke was pouched and thats what was causeing the leak.

I have noticed the same thing with the transfer cases on these trucks. Its almost like the sealing surface ins't nominal for the seal that they use.

I replaced mine on the 01 several times, and finally went to the local bearing guy, and got a seal that has a slightly ( measured in thousandths ) smaller ID. that seemed to cure the problem.

Mine is a 2000, but that same T case rear output seal leaks. I have been waiting to do it myself.....we'll see how long that takes

Does that shaft just pull out of the t case?

Yes. These trucks have a slip yoke rear output shaft.

Be careful. There are a few different rear output seals listed. I just changed one recently. The correct NAPA # is NOS23000 which has a 2.50" ID and a 3.350 OD and also has a "dirt boot" on the end of it. And yes it is easy to change. Pull the shaft out, pry the old seal out and tap the new one in.
