Any problems using Amsoil ATF
#3
The only problem I see is you waited too long. I switched mine at 3k miles. I had the dealer do the complete flush of the tranny. I wanted only the good stuff in there and yes it does make a big difference. The tranny temp runs much cooler and when I had the dealer do the 30 k miles tranny service there was no wear or band adjustments needed.

Thanks for the input. But I would like to hear from guys with the 48RE. I was under the impression that there are considerably differences between the 47 and 48. I can't find anything on anyone else make atf+4. My major concern is my warranty. From what I've read DC won't cover any repairs if you use other fluids.

I would not use amsoil atf in the 48re. My 03' had the 48re and I was told that although amsoil says it can be used in place of the atf+4 fluid, it still lacks some of the additives that is in the atf+4 trans fluid, and chrysler will void your warranty. As of now, the only place I know you can get atf+4 is from a chrysler dealership.

The use of another make of ATF+4 transmission fluid is acceptable
providing if meets the specifications of ATF+4 transmission fluid.
The above is directly from DCX. I e-mailed them in regards to using Amsoil ATF+4.

But again, you have to get DC to accept that Amsoil specifically meets the ATF+4 spec.
Get them to say that "Amsoil Universal ATF is an acceptable fluid," in writing and I am sure you'll raise a few more eyebrows. Good luck.

Below is a reply from DCX. According to their response, and that Amsoil says it meets or exceeds Chrysler ATF+4, I'd have to say it sure looks like Amsoil Universal ATF is good to go.
In case anyone wonders why their reply says Dear William & I signed "Sam," I go by my middle name (Sam).

Thanks again for the quick reply. I thought Amsoil made a specific
ATF+4 transmission fluid, but I see it is a "universal ATF" that covers many specifications.
Could you take a look at it here http://www.amsoil.com/products/atf.html and let me know if this product would have any impact in regards to the warranty of my 48RE? I appreciate you're help!
Thanks, Sam

Dear William,
We recommend contacting the manufacturer of the transmission fluid you
are seeking to use to determine whether it meets specifications for
ATF+4.
Thank you again for your email.

You misread DC's response. The problem is that the AMSOIL ATF is NOT "API CERTIFIED" and that's how/why DC will void the warranty. If your trans does fail, make sure you get a sample of the oil to send to Amsoil, so Amsoil can resolve the issue.

Are any of the automatic transmission fluids API certified? Not that I have seen. I have a qt of Quaker State and a qt Pennzoil Dextron III/Mercon ATF in my garage. Neither have the API starburst symbol. So I guess that means everyone better use the manufacturers' fluid, no matter what the make, but then again, they are not API certified either...
I don't see how DCX could deny warranty coverage simply on the basis using Amsoil ATF. They said it, if it meets ATF +4 specs, it's fine. I have used it in Ford 1/2 & 3/4s (can't remember the trans numbers), 4L60E, 4L80E, 47RE, & AW4 with nothing but surpurb results.
Is there anyone out there that has had DCX deny warranty coverage based on using Amsoil ATF?
