another problem

Hey guys,
I left my plant tonight and my SERV 4WD light on the dash came on. It went off for a few seconds and then came on for about 1 min. After about a mile it went back off but after about a 1/2 mile it came back on and stayed on for the rest of the ride home (100 miles). After I got home I tried to put the truck in 4WD but no dice. I live on a high location and we get lots of snow and lots of drifted snow. Not having 4wd is not an option for me. I cleared the code with my Smarty and it would go into 4wd but then the light on the dash comes back on and the truck wont come back out of 4wd. Cleared the code with the Smarty and out it came.
So what gives? 1 thing I ran through a big and deep puddle just before I parked the truck this morning so I got ta thinkin that maybe it could be water related...
Thanks guys,
Topper

Hi Topper

Since you have the Laramie, I assume that the truck has the electronic transfer case with the **** on the dash. You also mention that you ran it through a big puddle. Given that information,The water may be the cause of the problem. I suggest that you locate the connection plug for the electronic motor at the transfer case in order to dry and clean up the connections. I also recommend that you apply some dialectric grease to the contacts before plugging it back together. This will aid in keeping it protected from the elements. I hope that helps.

x2 on the water getting in the way of the electrical connection.

I'm sure it was at or below freezing today also, which probably doesn't help the situation.

Park it in the garage if you can and let it thaw out, then see if it engages properly.

Hey guys,
i just came in from the shop and happy to report that you guys were 100 correct. When I pulled the plug apart i was surprised at how much water was in the plug. I dried the plug and cleaned all the contacts with a small wire brush. I did use dielectric grease when I put it back together.
Thanks again guys!

Hi rolling18,

No problem! I assume that your truck also has the electronic transfer case with the **** on the dash. I suggest that you locate and pull apart the connection plug for the electronic motor at the transfer case and clean up(wire brush/emery cloth) the connections as they may be oxidized. I also recommend that you apply some dialectric grease to the contacts before plugging it back together. Try that and report back.
