another light steering thread
I have dug up a lot of old posts about light steering, but wanted to start a fresh one so I can get some answers quickly (sorry). I am noticing mine being really crazy lately. I was driving home on the freeway ( 73 mph) and whenever I was behind a car (mostly semi's) I would start to sway all over my lane. The steering feels really light, and almost like it has a "dead spot" when the steering wheel is straight, that is to say, it takes a while before the wheels engage and actually turn.
the truck is also pushed around by ruts, bumps and wind extremely easily, it feels like a little toy car instead of the 7,000 lb beast it is.
any thoughts? I am leaning towards ball joints (although they were replaced less than 30k ago) or steering box, but want to know if I am missing something.
thanks!

In addition to the items you listed above I would check for trackbar play, tierod ends and look into getting a steering box stabilzer like this one http://www.solidsteel.biz/ There are other ones out there too.

I got a thuren track bar for mine and it made a night and day difference. Call Don Thuren and leave him a message if he doesn't answer. It's one of the best upgrades I've done to my truck. A steering box stabilizer is next on my list.
