Another Lift Pump Question

I have a 2003 QC Duallie with the canister mounted lift pump. I bought the truck with 32K miles on it, 147k now. The original lift pump is still on and working. Should I go ahead and change it out with another canister mounted from Geno's. I would like to add a couple of mods nothing too drastic maybe a Smarty. Just worried the add strain on the fuel requirements will kill the current pump.

Now that I've asked this question it will probably go out on the way home today...

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If so how is the pressure? There is a good chance that your pump is ok but I would at least put a raptor 100 on and then you will never have to worry again.

No I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, not sure where to check it if I did have one. Over the last couple of days I been re-reading some of the past posts about lift pumps and I feel my pump is living on borrowed time, maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Given their history I would say you're on borrowed time. Make your decision and at least have one with you. You can change the canister unit on the side of the road in few minutes if you have to. If you want to upgrade, do it soon.

I would remove it and plumb a Raptor 100 into the line near the xcase. Better pump, better pressure, and no more worries.

While your at it add a Baldwin BF1212 in the line just before the Raptor, it will really improve your fuel filtering.

I agree with AH64ID! I do not have 147k on my cannister mounted lift pump; however, I do plan to install a Raptor with additional filtration in the near future.

do not buy another filter mounted one get an airdog fass, or fuelboss misusa, raptor a little more money but well worth it.

With 140K on the clock I added a Smarty Jr. I have it on stage 1 and don't plan on adding any more power. However, I did add a Raptor 100 just to eliminate the possibility of lift pump failure and having to effect repairs on the road. We'll be doing a lot more travel with our 5er soon and the thought of doing repairs in some parking lot wasn't enticing.

If I choose to go this route, does the pump go inline with the existing feed that goes to the existing pump? If I block off the area on the canister will the fuel not go through the fuel/water separator any more? What about the return fuel to the tank.

I looked at the Rapter, it said complete instructions come with the pump, just wondering what I'm getting into thats all.
Thanks for the replies.

The Raptor kit comes with new line to run from the tank to the pump which mounts on the frame. From the pump there is line to go to the existing filter location. You get an adapter to go on the back of that canister and hook it up. The fuel supply from the filter to the CP3 stays the same, unless you go to do something different with that such as add an inline 2 mic filter.

The install is very easy and should take between 1.5-2 hours. I've done a few of them and never had any issues.

You can get fittings that will convert the doorman fitting on the tank to 3/8" hose. Then run that hose to the BF1212, then the pump, then to the inlet on the OE canister. I would also take the time to do a big-line kit from the OE Canister to the CP3.

Thanks for the info, I'm begining to think this is something I should have done at a shop instead of me trying to do it in the driveway. Any idea what a shop would charge to do this install?

Edit: Nice shot of the Apache, I was with the 3/325 Airborne Infantry stationed in Italy. It was always a blast to go to Germany for the ARTEP. Those things are FAST!

Why is the Raptor so good? I see many guys saying that they willnever have to worry about a lift pump again. Why is that?

Also where r u guys buying them from?

Also the GDP filter kit. Are the bases the same for the standard size and the big line? Would it be possbile to upgrade to a big line later on? I dont ever really plan on adding power adders to my truck so I don't see the need to add performance stuff for fuel. But just incase.

The Raptor is rated for something like 16,000 hours of use.. At my current average speed thats over 500,000 miles.

The GDP bases are the standard 1-14" filter thread. Its the same base on all of their kits. The Big line kit is a good idea on a bone stock truck.
