Another injector bites the dust...

Well i did some spirited driving (not excessive) last night over to my friends house. got out and smelled diesel and sure enough same problem as last time, spewing from the breather hose underneath. And i had just been thinking how much i love driving my truck. Then i ran out of fuel on my way home cause i was close to empty and hadnt planned on the little fuel i had left to dump into the engine.
So I dropped it off and i wait to hear what they say.

As a side note, since this is "only" the second time this has happened, i would point out that both times i was driving the truck harder than normal ( not abusively) with the box on the 2nd setting and a low fuel tank. i really am wondering about the filtered quality of my fuel and wondering if the little added pressure along with the bottom fuel in the tank are having a factor or if its just hilighting something already going wrong?

It was one week exact last time, hopefully it will be quicker this time.

Sorry to hear about your truck.

Apparently the CR fuel system is quite prone to damage due to contaminants in the fuel.

I'm knocking on wood and hoping that changing the fuel filter every oil change 5k miles will keep me from suffering the same fate.

Did you remove your box before taking the truck to the dealer?

If you play you need to pay don't stick it to the dealer.
I hear from the dealers around here that is why Dodge dropped the 7/70K.

I hear what you are saying Gadget but I can't help but
feel for the owner also.

I have heard of instances where the factory has stuck it to more than a few truck owners by denying coverage for a repair.

If he took the truck in to have it repaired with the box on then there is no way he should blame the dealer or the factory.

Dog:

I can't help but wonder if some of these failures might be the result of the new ULSD fuel that I am sure is being placed in some stations tanks by now.
I know many have said that there should be no damage to most vehicles but with the amount of failures you reported in another post it is hard to believe that they are all do to poor injectors or dirty fuel.

I would like to know how much of the new fuel is actually in circulation and is being blended with the LSD fuel without our knowledge.

Bosch knows Dodge has an issue due to all of the repairs. A 2 Micron filter is needed. People with bone stock trucks are having issues. They wouldn't have run out to Glacier Diesel and bought 2 of his 2 micron setups if they didn't have a problem. I am changing my filter to a 7 Micron very soon. It's gotta help some and you know that is what Dodge wants us to do. Pay for it ourselves.

don't think its the the new fuel.Just the fuel in general and the design of the filter system.Word I read is Bosche made injectors and stated two micron filtering and the MANUFACTURES did not take heed and do such.NOW back to the NEW fuel.It may CLEAN better causing issues as what small micron crud in pipelines, storage tanks, our truck systems break loose and cause injector failures. This is what I gather as I read bits and pieces here and there.Any one with more knowlege please chime in.Another Dodge site sponcered by a DEALER the question and answer guy says that HE heard or was told that D.C.was testing, fooling around with a ONE micron system.Eaither way they need to stop being so rough on this testing of injectors, questioning failures etc.seems G.M. just POP them in with a There goes another one for the most part or so it seems. The MANUFACTURES need to foot THE BILL on 2 micron or whatever retro fits.I've been looking at Glacier Diesels system but keep thinking WHY do I need to foot this repair/mod IF the manufacture was TOLD a 2 micron by the injector manufacture to start with.They(D.C.) start having to warranty more and more Cummins engines they'll get off their axxx and do something. They eat every one of those at what $$$

Yeah, they will probably get on replacing the filtering capabilities, about as quick as they did with the frame mounted lift pumps....

Remember fellas, the Duramax uses injectors sourced from Bosch also and it seems the ones havin the problems here and on the GM's are the 3event types. Seems too many cycles decreeses the life expectancy. So it very well may be a combined prob. of quality control from Bosch and the fuel.

Exclamation injectors

I'am new to 3rd generation cummins.I have a 98.5 dodge. With as much problems as people have with the vp44's and dodge did'nt do anything about, the probality of them doing anything now seems hopeless.Dodge must have money to burn to fix all this stuff under warrenty.

I've often wondered how much $$ DC buys there VP remans for? I know I've done over 100 VPs and I'm just a tiny little spec in the world of dealers. Just think if 300 dealers did 50 pumps since 98.5 and DC could get them for $800.00. Now you see why trucks cost so much and that isn't even DC paying the dealer for the labor involved.

Yes i left the box on because i dont belive thats what the problem is. I bought my quad because pressure is kept within rail limits. I don't belive that its a coincidence that they both failed around the same time either. I think the problem is stock fuel filtration doesnt make the grade as a few have pointed out. this maddens me because when i asked them to check the fuel filter, they asked why?

I guess id really like to know how many stock trucks have lost injectors. and at what mileage?
