Another 48re problem
Alrighty, so my tranny leaks atf a bit, but only with the trailer hooked up. So I pulled the pan, to check the filter for possible obstructions, and out came this.... any ideas? [IMG][/IMG]

Yes sir. It is a piece of the direct drive clutch assembly snap ring. Happens alot on all the Dodge trannys. Not really a big deal. Just act like it never happened. When you need a rebuild, the builder will, or should replace it with a new one.

Not a big deal? Cool. However, is it possible that another part of the snap ring is obstructing a line causing poor flow and making it puke out the breather under heavy load? Btw i'm already on rebuild # 2 at 260000kms, so 161500 miles. Needless to say, going to a different shop.

I agree. IF this is the only piece that's broke off it's no big deal BUT... if the snap ring broke in the middle it could potentially come out. The chance of that happening is slim and none but the possibility does exist. If only a small piece came off one end, it'll be fine. You make the call.
If it was mine, I'd run it till she quit and then sink some $$ into a minor rebuild if everything works fine.

Ya, not a big deal... my Dad's 01 1500 had the same thing happen and I've seen a couple others like that as well. Seems typical on the dodge truck trannys. I told him to drive it till it wouldn't shift no more.
