son's rant
I'm not sure what type of "everyday driver" ever needs a sure-grip or what they consider as "off road." All I can say is that in an uphill rt-hand turn the inside tire will go up in smoke mashing the pedal more than just enough to keep the truck moving; feathering or standing on the brakes makes no difference. In that same turn, the wood-butchers dropped some mulch. If I hit that (outside tire even) I gotta lock in the 4WD or back up and try to miss it. Got one wheel off the pavement on an incline over the weekend and had to lock in 4WD to get out. Made a nice mess in 2WD w/ that 1 tire spinning. Again, just enough 'gas' to get the truck to move and it broke loose. The only time that sorry excuse for a sure-grip works is on level ground, straight-line. Makes me REAL glad I took the old man's advice and held out for a 4WD truck. I'm as interested in possible solutions as he is. I've entertained droppin both AA units for something older-school, but that's too much $$$.
