Fortunately my truck is an '04 and doesn't instantly blacken the oil. But even if it does, that is not an indication that the oil is bad. Cummins says 7500 to 15000 and the oil in the newer trucks is black way before that.
I change mine at 10,000 mile intervals using Delo 400. It has 120,000 on it now and I've never had to add a quart between changes. Real easy to keep track of to.

I change my between 8-12k (heavy towing) using dello, blackstone test always come back good (they say "run it longer!!!").
I would consider running synthetic OR less than 8k an oil change a WASTE!!!
I also change my fuel filter with every oil change...cause all it takes is one bad tank of fuel!!!

Changed it twice so far at around 7500 miles. Changed the fuel filter at 15K.
Thinking of doing fuel filter and oil at 10K from here on out.

I think the reason they reduce the intervals on the cg is because you have to run ULSD to use it. But that is already available. I think this has been discused before.

5,000 mile intervals with Delo. 90% of these miles towing. I think synthetic oils can give better performance in extreme conditions but I don't think we should extend oil change intervals with stock oil filtration. Especially with the new 6.7's.

I change mine at 15k with 2 filter changes....at 5k and 10k then have it analyzed. The report always says "all elements are acceptable....change and resample at normal interval". This has worked for me for over 500k on 2 trucks.
