If you feel the need to go above and beyond recommended service intervals, change your fuel filter more frequently. The 3rd gen forums are full of fuel and fuel system related problems, but nobody is complaining about oil/lubrication issues.

I have read that the new 6.7's with the new oil require more frequent changes but think that 5000 miles changes are quite a bit too frequent. JM02.

Slow down our oil dependecy, change as recomended or as oil analysis sugests..

Agree 100% also ... anything more is just total waste ... although who really cares anyway so long as we can fell warm and fuzzy. No disrespect intended but if it helps some think about it then it's all good

Very true! I replaced mine recently and drove it around the block a few times to check for leaks and it was already black.

FYI they changed the recommendation on fuel filters last year and say to do it every 10,000 miles with a 7 micron or better rated filter.

Chipped and heavily modded trucks qualify for heavy duty use even if they don't work in my opinion as the oil gets loaded up with more soot and won't last as long.

I change mine every 10,000 miles

I run Amsoil and my supplyer told me to go 10,000 miles as long as I was running a good filter. The book calls for 7,500 to 15,000 depending on the use of the truck. I now have almost 50,000 on the truck and do not use any between changes. I do about 50/50 hauling and riding. I love this truck. If I keep her around 65 running empty, I get around 20 to 21 mpg. Thanks for all the info. guys. Looks like i'll be changing my interval to 7,500 w/ fuel filter every change instead of my 5,000 w/fuel filter every other change.

Thanks again.

To be honest, my oil change interval is more than likely too often. I would change it less often if I had a bypass and/or did oil analysis. Since I don't have or do any of those I change it more frequently. In the long run I may spend a little more, but the initial cost of frequent oil changes vs. a bypass and/or oil analysis really isn't much different. I'm not a hotshotter or run in excess of 150,000 miles a year towing. I'm the average guy. So I figure it's no different than the guys running O/A or bypass. Remember, the best oil is the one changed frequently. These engines run 350,000 to 400,000 miles on regular oil changes. Changing oil frequently isn't going to prevent unrelated failures like injectors or injector pumps. The rotating assemblies of these motors are dang strong.

I changed my Jeep at 10,000 miles, oil wasn't nearly as black as my dodge after just a few thousand with Rotella T. Jeep is a 2007, with egr and Particulate filter in the exhaust, just like the new trucks. But the Jeep runs a 5w30 Mobil 1 ESP oil, and takes 10 quarts of it, for a 3.0 motor. If I put my hand in the oil that comes out of my Dodge after only 5,000 miles, it's really hard to get the black off of my hands, my 06 Duramax was the same way. But the Jeep, after 10,000 miles, it's black, but not that black, and you can easily wipe it off of your hands.

Maybe I need to run Mobil 1 in my truck, and run it for 10,000 miles

The Mobil 1 rep. I talked to recommended a oil change every 15,000 miles in a gasser and 25,000 in a diesel.
Use a Mobil 1 filter.
The money savings do add up.
