I change my oil at 5,000 miles too. Oil is black as paint after 5,000 miles.

I change mine every 3500-4000. I don't see what could be bad about it. I think it beats doing IOA's and running crazy bypass filters.

Change mine every 7k with the CJ rated oil.

Probably do a OA at 5k with the new CI oil and see how it's holding up and determine if I should go to 7k.

It's also black after 5 seconds of driving.

First 3 oil changes were every 3,000 for me. Now I'm going every 5,000. Probably completely unneccesary, but it gave me a warm fuzzy...

The oil on all the newer 5.9's is black as fast as you pour it into the engine. As far as the change schedule do what you want, but Cummins recomends 7500 miles between changes for heavy duty and 15000 miles for light duty. I have read that the new 6.7's with the new oil require more frequent changes but think that 5000 miles changes are quite a bit too frequent. JM02.

Slow down our oil dependecy, change as recomended or as oil analysis sugests..

I agree 100%. The only valid reason to change your oil at a lower mileage interval (below 7500 miles) is that you don't drive enough miles to change your oil twice a year or that an OA recommends it based on your driving conditions. "Cheap insurance" is not a valid reason, it's a waste.

If you feel the need to go above and beyond recommended service intervals, change your fuel filter more frequently. The 3rd gen forums are full of fuel and fuel system related problems, but nobody is complaining about oil/lubrication issues.
