Afe Pg7 Pulling Filter Mndr Down??

Went through alot of snow & all I can figure is the filter got completly soaked.
I noticed the filter minder was pulled all the way down, so I pulled the filter.
Upon servicing it I could not even get the water to go thru it when cleaning. After several cleanings I finally got it clean. Reoiled it & put it back in the truck. Now if I romp it I can pull the minder down roughly 60%??? SOOO
did I over oil it??? I have had these type of air filters for 15 years or better and never had this type of problem??? But I have never had a PG7 before??

When I had my AFE Stage 1 on my '03, it would pull the minder down when the truck was turned up. Now, with my '07, I can't pull the minder down on the drop-in filter even at WOT with the Smarty on 7 or 9. My guess is that you have over-oiled it.

I gave up on servicing my filters. I buy new filters and sell my used ones. It ends up costing about the same as replacing a paper element filter. Call me lazy, but I prefer to have the filter be oiled perfectly.

Yeah I think I'm going to clean the hell out if again & "lightly" re-oil it. Also how do you keep the snow out?? I have had this truck since new and this has never happened before??? The only thing different is I have added
Bushwacker Fender Flares, I wonder if somehow that changed the air intake under the right fender????

My 03 has always pulled my filter minder down about half way under full throttle conditions with the stock filter and when I got the new AFE years ago. I just know to clean it when it starts pulling it all the way down.

Put a pre-filter on it. It will keep the snow/ice/water from getting on the filter material. Make it easier to clean also.

Yeah, mine too. The '03's had a smaller opening in to the fender than my '07 does. I can't pull the minder down with the Smarty on 7 and a stock airbox at the moment...

Do they make a pre-filter for the drop-in? If so I'm ordering one...

I liked the pre-filter on my Stage II.
