Advice Needed....
Just got back into a Dodge w/ Cummins after a 2 year hiatus. This is my first with an auto trans. Looking very soon to add the Bully Dog PMT (I like the combined gauges, tuner and saftey features), an intake and a freer-flowing exhaust. I will be towing with the truck weekly to the tune of around 8,000lbs. Truck has 12,000 mi on it. I can't stand an unreliable vehicle and I don't like problems- so what would everyone's recommendations be as far as trans mods to assure that the truck operates without incident under the aforementioned conditions? (wouldn't be running the tuner at max while towing obviously, but would like some additional power while towing.) Thanks!

I would think a torque converter and valve body would be ideal starts. Might want to give Dave Goerand a call, think he could help you. (maybe someone will post a number for you, I can't seem to find it.

Be sure to tell him your plans for the towing, he will recommend the right setup for you. http://www.goerend.com/
On a side note, you seem to have found a very low mileage 06. I would like to recommend to you that you look closely at some additional fuel filtering while your injectors are still low mileage. http://www.dodge-diesel.org/mkbiglikit0d.html

Thanks for the heads-up guys! Already put an email into Goerend and awaiting a reply. May try calling today if I don't hear from them. As for the filtration, good tip.... Would an Airdog accomplish this same effect? I know it's more money, but I have a feeling I will need more flow in the future anyways. Appreciate any further advice!

With only 12,000 miles on the truck and a slight HP increase while towing, your tranny is not going to make your truck unreliable.
The failure is likely to be a slipping lockup clutch if you tow at high HP and very low RPM. So avoid that and tow heavy in the hills at about 2200 RPM.
The stock tranny is not an emergency and not something that will leave you stranded if you use a little common sense. Of course, a new Goerend will be a nice upgrade. I'm at almost 200,000 miles on my tranny. Been running a Smarty and occasionally towing for most of those miles. I put in a new TC a couple of years ago and even that one slips. So, it's a triple disk next for me, when I get a new tranny.

So far my trany has stood up fine and I tow 9 to 10 thou lots, I have just over 70 thou on her now and probable 45 thou of that if not more was towing, I have had a tow box since new. Just take it easy, dont pound on it towing and you should get lots of miles on her
