Adjusted trans bands
I serviced my 48re and adjusted the bands while I was in there, I used the instructions that were posted here in the tech section (thanx for the info), I set the forward band and torqued to 72"#s, it was not really out of adjustment. I dropped the pan and locate what i beleive to be the rear band adjustment, it was not a torx like the front adjuster was, however it was the only adjuster I could locate internally. It was WAAAY out, I had to back the lock nut off almost all the way to the 1/4" head to seat the adjuster, I set the band per the instructions and backed it off 1 3/4 turns, that did not seem like enough to me so I backed it off another 3/4 turn so there was a little more play in the armature. I road test it and when the trans shifted the 3-4 upshift it the truck started to slow down as if I applied the brakes, I immediately put the truck in nuetral which seemed to release whatever was holding it back and coast to a complete stop, run the shifter through the gears and then proceed back to my shop slowly to find whatever I screwed up. On the way back the trans shifted flawlessly no problems at all, so I check the fluid and it is in the middle of the crosshatch.
I reroad test but this time a couple wot starts and some interstate cruising, the problem never reduplicated, was this the 3-4 band solenoid hanging up or reseating? Overall the trans is running cooler and shifting better, I hook my 5ver up and haul it to the shop to get it ready for the season and to try the trans in tow haul, once again it worked perfectly and the trans ran cool, so is this anything to worry about?
With all that being said, I decided to finally install my Quad ZXT, (purchased through DTR) and roadtest wow what a difference, but that is for another post.
I know this is a long winded post, I wanted to put everything I did so you tranny guru's could enlighten me. This is also my first Dodge so I am learning as I go, I appreciate your time and help.
Thank you, Tim

I just changed the fluid & filter on mine and checked the band adjustment. If I remember correctly, the external adjustment is 1 3/4 turns out while the internal band adjustment was either 3 or 4! (I'm at work at the moment and can't double-check the factory service manual.)
I also recall the factory service manual saying it takes approx. 4 quarts to refill after a simple filter change. Mine seems to be at least 5! (Ran out of time and didn't quite finish.)
Don't know how critical it is, but it might not hurt to readjust the internal band to the correct specs. Unless somebody has a misprint or specs are different based on the year.
* My service manual did say 3 turns out on the internal adjustment.
