Is 85-140 Synthetic Blend okay?

That's all the auto parts places around me have right now. Will that be okay in my 11.5 AAM? Or is it too heavy?

Thanks!

Pauly,

That stuff will be just fine. No problems. Because it is a blend though, I would change it at the next scheduled interval. Nothing wrong with the quality of the oil, but just doesn't last as long as straight synthetic if you like to use extended drain intervals.

Cool.

Does Dodge call for full synthetic in the diffs? I'll use that if it's what is called for, otherwise I'll save a few bucks on the blend.

Thanks!

Dodge won't know the difference and neither will your differential. Dodge does put in full syn though from the factory.

Save the money and feel good. It's just not that big a deal as long as you change it when you should.

FWIW-- I use the high dollar Schaeffer's stuff so it's not like I am just trying to talk you into doing what I do.

I use the AMSOIL and it's not that expensive. You can get Mobile 1 100% synthetic for about 6.00 a quart..

I have been running the same brand and weights as "gscmiller" for over 50k miles now and so far (knocking on wood) no problems.

Where are you getting that for $6 per quart? The Autozone around the corner wants $18 per quart!

Because our trucks use a torsen style diff I would make sure you only use synthetic...Dodge also recommends full synthetic as well.

Copied from Dodge service manual:

REAR AXLE
² 9 1/4 - MoparT Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-140
² 10 1/2 AA - MoparT Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-90
² 10 1/2 AA EL- MoparT Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-90
² 11 1/2 AA - MoparT Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-90
² 248RBI - MoparT Gear & Axle Lubricant SAE 90

Get on Amsoil's website, get their 1 800 and call them. Become a perferred customer for $20 a year and order their products at a discount. You may be able to join and order on the same phone call. I just ordered 75/140 to put in the rear.
