Talking 600 owners,...your gonna love this...

I've been having a white smoke condition on start up on my truck. It lasts about 2 or 3 minutes and clears up and the truck runs fine. It's been into my dealer and previously and had 3 injectors changed. Additionally I had a slight miss at low speed idle but who knows,...it may have missed a bit on up higher in the rpm level. Anyway, the injectors cleaned up that miss, but the smoking condition was still there. I started calling around and found out from my local Cummins dealer that they have a customer hot line TN 1-800-Diesels. I called the number and got a tech named Jerry. He took the info and said he'd have to call his counterpart with Dodge Star group. He called me back in less than 5 minutes. WOW! Good service. He said that STAR would have a recalibration out in October for these 600s that would fix the white smoke startup problem and get this,...increase fuel economy!!!! Music to my ears. He also said it would be handled via a TSB and not a recall, so you'll have to request it. If I get the number I'll post it.

God I hope so. I could use some better mpg, but I think we have heard about this miracle reflash before. Not doubting what he said, but it has been said before and many a deadlines have come and gone. My fingers are crossed.

I hear ya!! But for what it's worth, I called my dealer and replayed the entire conversation with him and then he called STAR and they confirmed. FYI.

Mine doesn't either, but I'll pretend it does if it will boost my mileage.

Hmmm, interesting.....I know people who have long since passed the 6700 mile mark on their 600's and still, no white smoke. What's really interesting is, if it's a calibration issue, why would it wait until 5500 - 6700 miles to start puffing white smoke? Nope, it's not a calibration issue, otherwise that sucka would have been puffin since day one.

Mine started violently shaking and nearly stalled today, after coming to a complete stop from ~60mph.

I have had the normal 600 shake/miss at idle, but never this.

I am nearly certain it is not an injector, I think it would have to be 3 or so at time to cause this.

They should have let Cummins handle the programing.......

Woa! Wait a minute. What have I missed here? Do you mean someone else programmed the 600? Fill me in, please!

From all I have been told, Chrysler did the damage them selves (they wrote the program).

A buddy of mine is the Cummins tech at the biggest Dodge dealer in the state. Last night I went over and played around the shop after hours while he put my TST on. I told him about the supposedly upcoming TSB on the white smoke at start up. He then took my vin # to check for updates for my truck( which has had none) He pulled up a TSB for white smoke at start up, but it dated back to Feb. I went ahead and got that one, but he is supposed to keep me informed on anything new and I will pass it along.
