6 Speed Oil Change

Last week I drained the oil out of my 6 speed and refilled with Red Line MTL. Getting the oil back in wasn't to bad, just used a short drip line irrigation to for a filler. Removed the LH PTO cover and wiped the transmission out with a clean rag then removed the magnet for cleaning.

Shifting is a little considerable easier... In previous posts I've read about others experience regarding the fluid change and subsequent results, you've got to change it to really believe the difference. Definitely a must!

You seem to be assuming that just because the fluid provides 'easier shifting' it is also a better fluid for the transmission than the OEM-specified product... which may or may not be correct.

smiller,

Not really assuming anything, just stating facts. It is also entirely possible, most probable that OEM fluid would have done the same. It's just a personal choice I made to switch to the Redline brand. I've changed both differentials and now the transmission to Non-OEM fluids and the truck is doing fine. The engine will be next to go to a synthetic fluid. Do you have any information that would indicate that the Redline fluid could do any harm? Thanks for th reply.

No, I do not. I'm not sure that anyone can really be sure of this one way or the other until a number of individuals put a lot of miles on the 6-speed with alternate fluids and see if there are any problems down the line, and that will probably take a few years. I personally do not see enough advantage in substituting fluids to be worth the experiment, but if is your choice to be one of the test group... go for it!
