a while back i posted about the auto vs 6spds i think i am going to go for a 6 spd. my question is when did dodge switch from the nv5600? to the g5600? and which is a better tranny, as this will have and effect on the year of truck i buy. i do plan on some small mods once i get the truck but nothing over the top any help or info would be awesome

 

DC switched to the G56 in early '05.
The NV5600 is proven. Just not enough G56's out there yet to say one way or another.

Ditto, I love my G56, its real smooth but it only has 15,000 miles on it so as far as durability and longevity I dont know.

 

thanks for the replies, i'm leaning towards an 04 but i guess we'll see. doesn't seem like you can really go wrong with the 6 spds

 

g56 has been around Europe in Mercedes trucks for a while...it's proven. They switched in Feb '05 I'm told - mine's an April '05 build and I have it so early '05 is correct.
Check around for posts on it - you get used to it. I had an '03 with the NV5600 and the g56 is more certain when it comes to shifting.
