head bolts??
i am going to re-torque my head bolts in preperation for adding a edge juice. i am not going to be putting out quite enough hp to install studs, so just a simple re-torque to spec. should be fine. my question is this....can i pull one bolt at a time all the way out and coat it with loc-tite, then re-install and move onto the next bolt?

I would not think re-torque can help prevent losing a head gasket. Bolts stretch and is how gaskets are lost under high pressures.
If you want to add some insurance against pushing a gasket then I would do the studs... Especially if you are going to take each bolt out...

For what you are adding now I would not touch the bolts. If you start changing things to get your boost to the 50psi range and higher you will just need to replace the bolts for studs.
As a side note, I am not sure about diesels but I am sure the same thing applies. I used to build race engines (gasers) and street rod engines and everytime, I just replaced the bolts with new bolts or studs. Once you loosen the bolt and put it back in there is always some amount of stretch that has already taken place. The only time I removed the bolts and put them back in was on low budget, low HP, daily driver engines.

I asked Jeff Garmon the same question....He runs head BOLTS in his race truck. He told me as long as I am not over timing the motor the head bolts are fine....He also said to remove 1 bolt at a time, clean the threads and the hole, lube the bolt and the underside of the head and torque to stock specs....and then a little. He said the only time you will break a head bolt is from turning them too fast or binding on a thread...HEAT and STRESS are a definate way to YEILD (WEAKEN) the bolts.

I've never heard of using Loc-Tite on a head bolt/stud. Either a 30wt oil, some sort of thread sealant if it's going into a "wet" hole, or a specific bolt lubricant (ARP), etc.
Loc-Tite is more for clutch / flywheel bolts, suspension bolts, driveshaft bolts, etc.
