48rfe

Dodge tell me that this is the type of auto. trans I have! Since everybody usually refers to a "48re" I'm a bit muddled. Wassup?

4 - 4 speed
8 - torque rating (not sure it means anything other than more than 7, less than 9)
R - Rear Wheel Drive
E - Electronic Control

I thought one of the lighter duty trannies w/ the two 2nd gears was a "F" somehow.

But in a 3rd gen diesel it's either 47RE or 48RE

Can we really cal them dealers? How about sales accociate apprentice to the potential door greeter under probationary trial period in training?
But really they can't know everything but then again we are just asking them to know one thing
