48re shift sequence

What is the normal shift sequence of the 06 48re ?? 1-2-3-4-4 lockup ? or 1-2-3-3 lockup - 4lockup? or 1-2-3-3 lockup- 4- 4 lockup??
and is the sequence different between normal mode and tow haul mode??

I've been wondering the same thing about my '05. It's 1-2-3-4-4 lockup under steady moderate acceleration to highway speed. I've never noticed the torque converter lockup in any gear but 4th with a couple of exceptions: 3rd (sometimes) when in tow/haul mode and 2nd with the shift lever in that position. Does this sound normal?

That's usually the normal shifting and lock up sequence.

Well that seams to be the deal . But when in tow haul and accelerating with load will it get into 3rd lockup before 4th gear??

The sequence is:1-2-3-lockup-4th it doesnt matter if its in tow haul or not the sequence is the same. it is actually shifting into 4th with the tc locked.
tow/haul feels diferent because it holds the gear longer before shifting into 4th so you really feel the tc locked in 3rd. with tow haul off it shifts from 3rd lockup to 4th very quickly unless you are hard on the throttle.

Thats exactly the way my 05 shifts. It feels like a five speed, because you feel 4 events, 1 to2, 2to3,tc lock-up and then 3 to 4.

My TC doesn't lock up until after I'm in 4th gear, stock. That is the last event. When I'm driving 45mph in 4th gear the tach will go all over the place. At about 52mph the TC locks up.

Unless you are in tow haul, the TCC CAN lock in 2nd.

Normal use,

1-2

2-3

3-4 then lock up in the 50mph zone depending on APPS %.

In Tow/Haul

1-2 (Lock-up in 2nd if you are heavy enough to not accelerate through the gear)

2-3 (lock-up in 3rd if the TCC did not lock in 2nd) (I am not sure if the 2-3 shift happens locked, or not.)

3-4 shift is a locked shift, always, when in Tow/Haul.

Merrick

EDIT: Shifts rely heavily on MPH and APPS %. To find out how your truck shifts, hold the pedal 40% and let teh truck do it's thing until you get to 70MPH.

You should be able to count 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and lock up around 55mph.

With the Tow/Haul mode engaged, you will feel 1-2, 2-3, then the TCC locking up, then the 3-4 shift.

Well thats kind of my question. How can you tell if your getting a 3-4 shift or a 3-3 lockup shift.

if you have the edge juice w/attitude you can see when you TC locks up. Depending on how i do my throttle i go 1-2-3-4 As i go into forth my TC locks. If i am light on the pedal its 1-2-3-4-4lockup. if i am heavy on the pedal its 1-2-3 lockup -4

You can tell when the TC locks up by watching the tach. If it is locked, when you let off the gas pedal, the rpm's will hold and lower proportionally as the truck slows down. If it is unlocked, when you let off the gas pedal, the rpm's will drop right away to idle rpm.

When you hit the gas with the TC locked, the tach will climb proportionally with speed, just like a manual.

As far as I know, there is no lockup in 3rd gear, only after it has shifted into 4th. This is without engaging tow/haul or OD off mode.

There is lock-up in thrd gear on my 05,it feels like a shift, but the rpm's only drop about 300,then it shifts to 4th or overdrive and the rpm drops about 500. The opposite is true downshifting from 4th to third, the tc unlocks and the rpm's jump up,then it shifts to third and the rpm's drop back to normal, thats one of the complaints about the 48re,when pulling hard uphill and the tc unlocks ,the tach goes way up like to 3000 rpm's for just a second or two, then drops back when the downshift to 3rd occurs.

I agree. feels like a 6 spd even though I have a auto.

I wish mine was back to that. I am currently driving a 3 spd auto unless I get over 50 mph, then it will finally shift into OD and then LOCK.

I have reset my apps (awhile ago) and may need to do that again. I'm assuming that is what might help in shifting?

On resetting the APPS. Disconnect batteries, turn key on, wait 30 minutes, turn key off, connect batteries, turn key on and press slowly down on the go pedal to the floor and then back up, turn key off.

Does it matter how SLOW you press the throttle to the floor and back again? I did it slower then I would if I was giving it throttle like normal driving. Could that have changed my shift pattern on the tranny. Cause I do NOT have OD or 4th until 50 mph now no matter how light I am on the throttle or anything. Kills me to be hitting 2000 rpm while going down the road at 43 - 46 mph or so. Wish it would just SHIFT and then let me cruise down the road.

This is ALL with NO hauling or pulling anything, just normal driving.

Been thinking about taking it to the Dealer to have them test but I would rather fix myself. it hasn't been there once yet with 24,000 on the clock. Hasn't needed anything.... (on wood of course)
