Question 48re shift hard?

my tranny in my truck seems to shift kinda hard, and even way harder when i have a load. i know its not supposed to shift like a mercedes or somthing but im just wondering how every one elses 48re shifts. is it pretty soft or is it supposed to shift hard? i just wish more and more i would have gotten the dang 6-speed. dodges automatics just scare the **** outta me...
thanks for the help
eric

Yes they do shift hard. We don't hear too much from new dodge owners, but ones who traded off their 47re equipped trucks, and go drive the new rig with the 48re usually come back and ask about the shift.

Hard is kinda subjective. Do you mean chirps the tires hard, or cluncks, or ??? Mine doesn't shift hard, you can definately tell when it's chaging gears though and there doesn't seem to be much difference towing or not. But I've had no problems yet, she pulls great!!!
I just wish the gears were closer together and there was another one in there and the first one was a bit lower and and

OK, yep this one does it too. My last ride had a shift kit in it and this thing is pretty plush compared to that. I think if there were real problems, we'd start hearing about them around now. I have almost 25K on mine, about 1/4 of that towing and no problems yet.

When mine shifts into O/D under some moderate power, it feels like I have been rear ended. It doesn't feel right to me, but others say its normal??

If you want a "hard" shift, put a shift kit in it!! Keep in mind generally speaking the harder/faster the shift, the better it is for your tranny. A slow soft shift is generating heat and slipping.

Pulling a small trailer (2500lbs) and accerating it shifts into overdrive/lockup like a bucking bronco when you give it a good dose of throttle . When I drive around town (lots of stop & go) then park ,then back out of a parking stall my throttle pedal is stiff and the trans won't shift under lite throttle pressure until you floor it ,then you feel something give and all is good till next time I park. Spoke with the dealer and told them to have a new vale body and tv cable ready for when I bring it in. Hopefully that will fix it!

Do you put your foot on the go pedal when starting
What you describe seems like a known problem when starting, if you push the go pedal when starting then the computer uses that position as the idle positon, however it is NOT the real posit if you push the go pedal and the computer does NOT like that and gets confused and doesn't lile to let yo shift out of park and other things

the 48re is a great transmission, if you feel it shifting hard that means power, this transmission can take everthing that diesel can put out and more enjoy

hlclmr..

What Dealership are you dealing with?? The guys out here in Stony won't have parts ready for a truck. They have to look at it first.. sometimes twice.. Looking for a new service department
