48re overdrive lock out

i found the electric motor that rotates the shaft where the colum shifter connects to the tranny. but it has a pretty big plug with about 4 to 5 wires going into it. if i knew wich one to disconnect i would give it a shot

The dang 48re ,in tow-haul mode wil not shift into 4th at 40mph ,even if you leave your foot off the pedal,in fact one of the nice features of the 48re is when you lift off the pedal and start slowing down in tow haul mode the tranny down-shifts and down a steep grade this is good.If you need lock-out ,I agree it should be an option thats available, but the tow-haul mode is a good improvement in the 48re. I think dc does a lousy job of explaining to customers how it works. They just basically say
its smarter than you are and don't take the time to explain why and how it works.

I'v drove 4 different 2005s and they all go into 4thand then into 4th lockup at 40-45. Also one trans machanic from one dealership was so sure you could lock out 4th that he put a scanner on the truck and lordy lordy if he didnt prove to himself that you CANT lock it out. But he did discover that if you come into a place where you want 3rd if you push the button it imediatly goes to 3rd and if you hold it in ,it'll stay in third as long as you hold the button in.

It sucks all right , and it'll suck more when these torque converter clutches start to go ,and they start fixeing them on warantee. Me I'm just not going to buy one that I know isnt going to work right to start with.
They finnaly got lockup for downhill engine brakeing ,which is great . But most hills where you need downhill lockup for brakeing you need 4th gear lockout forgetting up there. GO FIGGER

Another thing ,there spending countless hours of research and development trying to get this 48re to be compatable with a j-brake. This trans isnt a done deal, there still working on it as we speak. So maybe if we scream enough we'll get the lockout feature back.

when going downhill if you turn tow/hual off and then back on it will shift down to 3rd and stay there until you touch the go pedal then it will shift back into 4th if your still going downhill. thats how mine works anyway. ive gotta figger somethig out to do about this no lockout crap cause im stuck with this truck now

Pecondude ,
I understand that if your going downhill, you turn towhaul OFF then turn back on it'll shift back to 3rd ,but then you hold button in and that'll keep it in 3rd as long as you hold button in.
Whats needed is a gidget that you can stick on end of shift lever to push button in and then the gidget will hold button in indefinetly without the driver doing it.. that way you could run the gauntlet untill you wanted 4th back and just take off gidjet..
I think they call the gidjet your passenger or wife or whoever might be setting there.
More I think about it I like my idea . My lovey wife has lots to say, (turn here, turn there, watch that car ,light comeing up , wrong lane,) You all get the idea ,this would give her an official job to do , keep her mind on something important. Push and hold that button honey, and unpush it when we dont need it pushed no more.
I wonder how much Dodge would pay for my idea, heck it aut to be worth something, they cant figger it out.

It sounds like the button , when depressed still does the same thing it did in 2004, lock out 4th gear and the tow/ haul was added to the mix. Theres got to be a simple way to do this if just holding the button down does it! I know that one of ya'll are smart enough to figure this out for us, I know I'm not , there are too many wires and no pictures to look at!
