48re downshifting past redline
why would the "brains " of the transmission allow it to down shift and the rpm's go past the red line? or is there a problem here? '03 ho, 48re, stock.

Well, what's "redline" in these trucks anyway? Yeah, I know it starts at 3100 rpm on the tach but.... that seems low. I guess my point is, the computer might have the redline set a little higher than 3100, letting you briefly down shift into the red zone on the tach.
As a side note, while towing up hills I usually hit 32psi boost and 1250° EGT at 3100rpm in third gear at about 72mph. So it all works out, everything is about maxed at the same time.

Mine has done that before, engine braking down Vail pass about 60-65 mph with 6500 on the back. Had it in second on the selector so that the tranny would stay in third. Was holding that speed, maybe picking up speed just a bit, then all the sudden 4200 on the tach. Thats the only time it has ever done that and I use the tranny like that everytime I pull.

I had it floored merging onto the interstate the other night, and when I glanced down at the tach I noticed that it had just gone into the red (~3200-3400 RPM) before it shifted.
I actually like that it held the gear before shifting up.
