48re downshifting by itself in Cruise?
Just finished my first trip with the TT. Had a questions though. There I was minding my on business.... The truck is in cruise control, set at 60 in OD, tow/haul NOT on. Goes up the hills like a *****, but going down the other side the thing downshifts itself when it reaches 5mph over the setpoint for cruise. So is I had CC set at 60, at 65 it would downshift. Is this normal?
As soon as I either cancel cruise control, OR hit the accell button to raise the setting it would jump back into OD.
NOW, please answer that question for me cuz I gotts tell ya, this this was AWSOME!. I have a 6500lb 5er and this truck hardly knew it was back there. Granted 6500lb isnt much, but ****!!! Averaged 13.8 mpg, at around 65mph, not bad with 2800 on the odo.
Now for the fun story.
I started up this really steep part of I-5, the steepest hill on I-5 in southern Oregon, there was a new duramax behind me. I couldnt get over because of the semi's so I kept it at 65. As I was going up the hill he was riding my butt, so the first chance I got I pulled over in the right lane. This guy pulls up next to me with a small flatbed with a camry on it and looks at me and shakes his head. Well I just couldnt have that, so I got into it as much as I could without shifting out of OD. He never had a chance. As I was pulling away I heard him mash into it and drop it down a gear, so I know he was trying to pass me. Sorry dude, not in that thing.
I dont usually brag, and this will be my last time I promise, but this is my first trip with my cummins, and wholly crap-ola do I love this thing. My wife laughs at me cuz I just grin going up the hills.

Yeah, I think it's just the computer's way of trying to keep you at the selected speed.
I know what you mean by the grin, hell, the wife and were both grinning when we drove from Texas weighing over 13k, getting over 12 mpg at 70mph, and didn't even know the trailer was there. Now stopping that bad boy is a whole other story. Thank God for brake controllers.
But I've never had another HD pickup try to run me.
