You might, I like cummins!!! I'll just wait until dodge puts in an allison or a fuller trans in. I live close to NADP, they have a good supply of trannies.

I just have the Cal SO '03. Tow about 7K. Leav'n it stock till I am the warranty station, then I'll do the trans. Adding HP is sweet but the preasure it adds to everything just wears it out sooner. A QUESTION. Will the Mag-hytec doubledeep pan help the trans? It adds a gallon of ATF.

You said it right! Only a couple of things holding me back...money and most of all my wife She gets ill every time I talk about my next mod with one of my buddies on the phone Oh well, she's got her weaknesses, such as $140 hair cuts and Victorias Secret...and I've got mine...I can't help that mine costs more than hers!
you need to tell your wife you need the bombs to get home quicker to see her in her new victoria secerets stuff.... at least she'll smile before giving you the 'look'. LOL

My truck is stock & used for work towing. I had to rebuild it @ 200K. Tranny maint. by the book. I wish I could've had the bucks to do it right but of course it broke down at the worst time money-wise for me. Had my Dodge dealer do it. Stock rebuild. The thing I didn't like, I was told that no matter how good you take care of it, driving & maint. it will eventually fail due to design of some "o" rings. They eventually dry, get hard & leak.
Hind-sight & not knowing this, a tranny rebuild should have been calculated into my annual maint. costs and I would've saved up to do it right - bigger TC & VB. I did this to my '99 and loved the way that truck ran after the tranny rebuild.

That's pretty reliable.

It is a long story. It doesn't shift right(hunts) & when you let off the gas it is acting like it is using compression to slow it down, as in the rpm's only go down when mph's go down. Code 1740 has come on for the 5th time now. 1st time- 1800 mi. computer was flached.2nd @ 3800 mi. TC & O/D solenoid replaced. 3rd @ 8500 mi. VB replaced & reflashed. 4th @ 13,000 mi. reflashed AGAIN. 5th time: 100 mi. after 4th replacing the TC AGAIN, front pump & bushings(?) 'cause there are metal shavings in the tranny. Miles are app. I have them on all work orders. I told them "don't give it back w/o a new tranny". I guess they don't care what I had to say.

I have forever forgot about the 48re as a reliable trans- - - -expecially after one leaving me on the side of the road more than it was on the road. I hate that the Cummins Name gets dragged down just because of an inferior tranny behind it. I will stay with the manual transmissions until DC can PROVE to ME--ME, that they are reliable. sorry for the rant, and yes I know that there are trannies that never give an ounce of trouble, but the 48re is old school, and everyone (besides the built ones) that I have ever rode/drove dissapointed me.
