2nd Gen to 3rd Gen???

Hoping to find some former 2nd Generation guys/gals that stepped up to the plate and now own a 3rd generation truck. Place your vote below please. Also any additions for things to watch for on the 3rd gens. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I purchased my first CTD back in '04, it was a 2002 automatic and have really come to enjoy the truck. Last fall I was in need of another truck for the business so I took advantage of the prices to get a new '05 (manual) to add to the stable. While I have to admit I enjoyed the creature comforts of the '05 over the '02, I wasn't absolutely thrilled with the G56 tranny. While the truck ran good, it wasn't all I was hoping it would be, then when I found out I couldn't run over 40% bio in the engine without injector issues, I decided to get a used 2nd gen to replace it with (at least now I have an NV5600, which I like a lot better). My brother in law has the '05 and enjoys it a lot, but I personally prefer the 2nd gen trucks as I find them more reliable overall (once the LP issues are resolved) and I get better mileage to boot.

I've had a 1st gen, 2 2nd gens, and now my 03. The 1st gen was nothing but problems. The two 2nd gens weren't too bad. The 03 has been a great truck. It's very easy to get lots of power out of these 3rd gens if that's what you're into....

I'm on the fence with this question. Normally I'm for a 2nd gen just because I've owned two 2nd gens (gasser and diesel) and loved them both. Recently a friend of mine bought an 06 QC 2500 6sp and i rode in it last week. Man, is it nice truck! He had and 04.5 and it was nice but this 06 he just got seems allot better even though he bought pretty much the same truck except it now has a 6 spd. I said to him if i ever decided to get a newer truck it would be a 2006 dodge. Problem wise, his 04.5 seemed to be a pretty solid and reliable truck and time will tell with the 2006. But if a 3rd gen is what yuou want go ahead and get one, to me they look to be pretty good trucks.

I have to agree with Dodgezilla, I've owned a 1st, a 2nd and my 3rd gen, the 3rd gen by far a better truck and I do luv a dually.

Ya, I want another dually now but I don't want to trade the truck in with all this good stuff on it. Plus it's just been such a good truck.

Man those new duallys sure are nice though........

So, if you want to jump into a 3rd gen that's pretty quick, let me know....

I absolutely LOVED my old truck. Spent countless hours fooling with it, thinking about it and writing about it on here.
Since I made the leap into a 3rd Gen I couldn't be happier. My new one rides, steers and overall generally performs much better than the 2001. Of course, some of this is simply because its NEW, with a NEW payment book (2 actually) to go with it.
Seriously though, I can't imagine anyone having any regrets in stepping up to a 3rd gen. I really didn't even care for the LOOK of them up until the last year or so, I was just always partial to the style to the styling of the 2nd gens.
NOT ANYMORE!

I have had 2 1st gen trucks both of which were awsome and got over 20mpg I then bought an 04 which now gets over 20 as well . my 06 which I just purchased a couple months ago is a different story. I have been battling with it to get the mileage to come up.. I have had all "the flashes," done the tone ring mod, I run the best fuel addative, I bought the big mileage miser chip, gutted my intake pipe and im still not close to the mileage of my old 1st gen trucks. I dont need anyone to tell me about the weight and hp difference. I already know but I think it should do better and it will eventually. once my mitchell gear splitter gets here

Loved my 2nd gen after I put about $12k into it. Love the 3rd gen dually even more & it's still close to stock.

I had a 2001. Now a 2003. I like the 2nd gen interior, seats, and engine sound and start up better. Everything else the 3rd is better especially the cab stiffness and visibility out of the cab.

I would say go 3rd gen. The common rail technology is in full swing.
