235,000 miles? Any concerns?

I am selling my 07' 6.7 truck to get some money liquid to finish our new house. I am looking for an 03 or 04 as cheep as possible to replace it. Would there be any concerns buying a 5.9 with 235,000 miles? 1 owner and supposed to drive great, look great etc. THe only negative seems to be the miles. It is also a 6 speed, so I am not too worried about the transmission. The price is cheep, but not worth it if I had to buy a new motor.

How much is it to rebuild a 2004 5.9 liter? I also want to have some fun since I never got to do any mods to my 6.7 liter truck. It only has 11,000 miles on it

I would ask to look at the maintenance records. He/she can have dealer print them out if it was dealer servicesd. Or if more like me, I keep all receipts for maintenance items and keep a log in Excel.

In our FedEx delivery fleet at my station we have several 5.9s that have turned over 500K miles, most are in the 200K to 400K mile range right now. They are beat to death everyday in stop and go traffic. Started and stopped 60 to 100 times a day just on my route. Minimal maintenance and they still run great.

If the seller is reluctant to share maintenance history and accident history if any, I would look elsewhere.

I am somehow contrary to the poster above but I guess we can both be right.
I would rather get a high mile truck from a hauler or somebody that towed a lot that getting it from somebody that drives in town and does a lot of stop and go.

Long hours and miles means motor reaches operating RPM range and temperature and keep it steady for a long time.

I bought mine with 145k on it from a cattle hauler, I put 60k on it in 6 months towing commercially and truck has not had a problem except maintenance issues (filters, ball joints, etc), I am really happy with this vehicle.
If it has a 6 speed check the clutch or ask if it has been replaced, they last approx 150k/180k depending on use,

First thing I would do is check the exhaust manifold to see if it ever had a pyro gauge installed. If it did and it's no longer there that would lead me to believe the guy had a programmer or chip on it at some point.

I disagree that a pyro gage indicates the engine was modified at one time . A EGT gage is usually my first upgrade on all my diesels and is the first sign of trouble with an stock engine . EGT's will be off the chart long before water temp even starts up , gages would never scare me from a truck . Drive the truck , look and listen to the motor and transmission will tell way more .

I agree that could be the case, but you never know on these newer trucks that can run 190hp over stock with just a programmer. Someone could have had injectors and/or a programmer running 1900* EGT's at sled pulls or drag races. The fact is, you're never going to know.

If you buy a used truck with no signs of a pyro gauge, then chances are much better you won't get one that was beat on. That's my theory on it anyway.
