I'm at 15000 miles and have noticed a little more injector rattle than when new. Still quieter than my 04.5 but you know it's a diesel. Not nearly as quiet as the 6.7 but also in my humble opinion fewer problems also.

Ditto, although the ticking seems to come and go with mine.

At 20K miles mine's louder than when it was when new.. Or so it seems. People use to not believe me when I said it was a diesel, now you can tell it's pretty clattery. Not that it bothers me.....
Only thing changed since new was going to a CJ oil.......... and it's colder out.

Do you get a ticking sound out of her, almost like a gasser with a valve tap?

Not that I can think of. It's just more clattery but nothing that bothers me at all. Just something I noticed.

Only 2 things I can think of is cold weather causing it (she doesn't much care for cold mornings) since it's noticable starting off even when it's in the 40's and second I changed to CJ oil from the factory fill.

I can remember the ticking of my LT1 pretty well, I'll see if I can hear it tomorrow.

If it helps, I notice the sound more when I stand on the drivers side about 3 feet away from the back door. The clatter doesn't bother me (actually enjoy it, and miss the injector clatter from my 7.3) but the ticking sound, well... if it's nothing thats fine, I just don't want it to be a potential problem.

Sorry for hijacking this thread folks.

Ya, that's what I meant.

I don't think it sounds like it needs any kind of adjustment... just sounds a little more like the older 24 valves.... From everyone I have talked to, it is normal and as Cummins (and possibly all diesels) break in they will get a little louder...

Yeah, it ticks. You can hardly hear it below the r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r sound the engine makes.

Thanks guys, I like to put my ear over by the valve cover and just listen....... love the way it purrs....

Glad to know that the tick isn't the signs of a valve ready to drop.

Mine is pretty quiet and it got even quieter after the first oil change when I swapped out the stock 15w-40 to Mobil1 5w-40. I can barely hear it in cabin.
