I got mine out with just one small flat head screw driver, but alot of guys on here say that they needed to use 2 of them. Just be very careful not to slip and scratch anything. It will come out....you just need to get the retainer clip in the right position.

I highly doubt you did any damage.. it is tricky to get the snap ring out that is for sure.

the snap ring has angled ends to it, best way to describe it is one end is like this / the ohter like this \ if you can not get a point under one end of the snap ring, try the other end. seems simple, but if you are tryin to wedge under the sloping away side vs the other, it makes all the difference.

after that is done, you will want to gut the intake tube, removing the baffles, or get an aftermarket intake like an afe with intake tube to really hear that baby whistle.

one side has a slight bezel on it. Place a very small straight screw driver under it, lift up and towards you and it will come right out. Mine took 2 minutes...

go for it, if ya mess it up, its a good excuse as any to upgrade ! but think about it, if the tip of what you are using is not getting under to pry the end of the clip, try the other end of the clip or a smaller tipped tool, icepick small screwdriver.... once you get it started you may need to grab it with a pair of pliers to work it around and out.
