2006 Fast Idle?

Howdy,

I've got my new 2006 over at the Dodge house right now getting a couple of small things worked out. Since I'm in Texas, nobody there knows anything about winter fronts or fast idle. I've got them educated on the winter front, but not the fast idle yet. Does a 2006 have a fast idle feature, and if so, how does it work and does the service department have to enable the feature?

Thanks,
Tad

I would imagine the 06's would have the high idle feature i know the 05's do... The dealer does need to enable it.
You control idle speed using the cruise control buttons.

The way it works on my 06 is while in park you turn on the cruise control. Then you hit the set button on the cruise control. Every time you push set button it increases rpm a couple hundred with a max of 1200 rpm. To turn it off you just hit the off button on cruise. Yes it is on 06 auto's only and has to be inabled by the dealer. It is a great feature with winter on it's way.

Mine goes into high idle automatically about a minute after you start it up in cold weather. The cruise control feature sounds nice though. So this wont work unless i take it back to the dealer to have it enabled?

They wont enable it on 6 speeds.
Reason - per Dodge the trans front bearing will not get enough oil/lubrication at idle. Extended idle running time at the higher RPM will cause the front bearing to fail

You have to keep the 48re in N if you do prolonged idling. You will do damage in P... I just had the high idle enabled this week as well. The trans has to be in P or N, turn the cruise on and it will go to 1000rpms when you hit SET. You can adjust it to 1500rpms by tapping ACCEL..

its just a programe the dealer puts in for ya.. they told me the oil pump didnt carry enough oil press.at idle..needs to be up around 1,000 rpm to work right if you let your truck idle for longer then 10 or 15 min. at a time..dont know if its true but i had it put in.

make sure that if you take your truck to the dealer to get worked on you check and make sure that your high idle works before you leave..i had to get it put back in like 3 times. no big deal ,it just stinks to have and go back.
I use my high idle alot seeing how i sleep in her often..

just tryin to help out
