2005 tow haul mode

Trying to get Dodge to change my computer and maybe yours if i am successful.

I will send the results to the regional dodge rep.

Lets get as many of us on the poll results as possible. Maybe dodge will realize they have a problem.

Keep in mind that Dodge did add the 4th gear lockout to the 2006. But they should do the same for the 2005 owners.

how do you know for sure about the 2006?

all the dealers in my area say they haven't even seen the 06 or its cpu program and won't for a while.

have you seen the 06, driven it or know someone that has one?

i questioned my service manager this AM about reflashing to the 06 program if it will give me od lockout. i was told they don't have the programs or the trucks yet to verify my request.

they spoke with star about the programming and were told that a fix is in the works for the 05s but god knows how long that wil take

Unhappy

Dodge must now it is a problem, or they wouldn't have put it back on the '06 models... Should have waited a few more months before my purchase.

Rockhound and all you guys.
Yes I personally drove a 2006. My local dealers here have them in stock. The 2006 has both the tow haul and 4th gear lockout. Push the button once and you get tow haul. If you push the button while in 4th gear it'll it'll downshift to 3rd and tow haul light comes on. but then upshift back to 4th as soon as trans see fit. Hit the button again and it'll downshift to 3rd and stay there no matter what. and OD OFF light comes on, but tow haul light went out. In this mode you can run it right up to redline ,slow up ,run it up again ,whatever but it'll stay right in 3rd. untill you slow down to 2nd gear speed, at which time it'll downshift to 2nd, BUT 4TH IS LOCKED OUT!!!
I'm not sure how this will work for downhill brakeing. You may have to go back to tow haul mode for downhill motor brakeing. I drove the truck empty on level road.

i think the 05 Tow/haul sucks on my friends 05. he thinks its the best thing in the world and it pulls 50 million times better than without tow/haul. honestly i dont notice much of a difference under light accelleration with tow/haul on the 05's

You can make it work. I agree the lockout is preferred, but I don't dislike the truck without it. I was engaging the T/H when I needed a down shift, either going up or downhill. After I got the trans into 3rd I would turn the T/H off and be ready for the next time. For me the trans stayed in 3rd when I need it to. I guess my speed was right. That was my work around.

Mine works fine as is, however I don't tow that much weight. Only about 6 thousand pounds so it's not a huge 5th wheel or something. It would be nice if they just kept the tow haul button on the shifter, but gave us a 3rd gear selecter on the colum shifter. That way you could still have it operate with Tow Haul mode, but lock out OD. That would be sweet.

I agree with the 70% side of the poll that there should be a overdrive lockout for the 2005 trucks equipped with the 48RE transmissions. This would give the driver the ability to select third gear and it stay there, or downshift if needed.

Without it the driver has less control over the vehicle and its load, at the time when it is needed the most, at hiway speeds.

Also there is the "mind of its own" thing that really bugs me.

I think Dodge realized their mistake and built it into the 2006 trucks.

Remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

I wonder what the cost will be to DC to reflash all the trucks built in 2005 for those that want it?

I like it so far but I don't tow over 10k and no real steep, long grades. No, problems with gear hunting for my type of towing, but hey, more options are always nice. Mountain tow guys probably get a better feel if it's needed or not. BTW, my truck is in the shop with trans. problems right now (hmm, maybe I don't like this trans).

Good job on the initiative.

DC will most likely release software for the 05's. You'll just have to wait for the 06 launch to settle down and they will release it for using the exhaust brake on the 05's.

Be patient. The big 3 are SSSSLLOOOWWW
