A freind just phoned me, he is changing fuel filters and he says he has a spin on filter high up on side of engine on passenger side, with a rubber bulb on top of housing. It is an 05. is this an add on? My 01 does not have this. He is trying to bleed to start.

 

Sounds like its an addon of some type. It should prime by turning on the key, the pump is in tank unless it has Airdog or FASS system but either one should still prime it, unless that filter is prepump but wouldn't think so.

 

Sounds like an add-on. On my '05 the filter is on the drivers side,,,,no squeeze bulb. The filter is self-priming after the change out and you shouldn't need to do anything special after a filter change to start the truck.

 

How is it on the passenger side? I can't think of any filter kits that run the fuel to that side of the engine. I'm beginning to wonder if it's not an oil bypass or a coolant filter of some sort...

 

Thats how GM does it on their duramax...never heard of that on a dodge, but you never know! It is a primer on the filter for a duramax diesel. Instructions on how to use it are in the owners manuel. I replaced a filter for a buddy and had to use it.
