If what you hear is a squeak or a chirp, don't worry. It is most likely the serpentine belt. It is normal, in fact my truck has it at shutdown. There are many others here that have the so called "belt chirp".

I noticed this is your first post. Welcome . Also noticed you have a 2005. Just so you know that all Rams 2003 and newer are classed as 3rd generation Rams. There are three forums for the 3rd gens. I think 2 forums down from 24 Valve Engine and Drivetrain.

Again welcome. There is a vast source of information on Rams here.

My 2002 will go "cheeeeesh" sound like a sigh of relief if I shut it down too quick. Idle and cool down, it is quiet.

Sounds like the infamous Cummins shut down belt chirp / screech which a whole bunch of people have.....is it normal you ask? For the most part yes others may disagree, in any event mine has done it since new and now I have about 12K miles on with no problems.

It was explained to me like this... due to the compression of the motor when it stops, it stops on a dime. the belt accesories don't and that causes the belt to "squeak" (am I allowed to say that about the CTD?). Mine does it nearly every time. Once I scared the crap out of an elderly lady and her daughter when I shut down at the grocery!!!!

mine has never done a belt chirp yet, but i don't think the manual trans folks have that issue... i think it is mostly the slushb... er, automatic tranny folks that get the chirp
